Something a little different from the norm... we've all seen Zombie films we know the cliches

Just because AMC adapted the Zombie theme into a series doesn't make it any less cliche, It's impossible for the Zombie genre not to be cliche. Now instead of a 2 hour zombie movie it will be 13+ hours, that isnt very innovative to me.

28 days/weeks later tweaked the genre just enough to make it interesting and new. I was expecting a small change to make me go "Wow that's new! Now shoot it in the head!"

Speaking of cliches: Guy is in coma, best buddy is now sleeping with wife. Come on now!

That is good to know! I knew there had to be more to it.

I missed the first 20 minutes or so originally, I am rewwatching it now and just found out about him waking up in the hospital, etc.

I completely disagree about the tv vs movie thing. Tv is an entirely different animal and there are so many more details and aspects of survival that are not normally looked into by movies that can be examined by this show

Unless they deviate from the comic, there will be nothing cliched about this show.

Also, it looks like there is gonna be a lot more hand to hand/melee style combat than the usual zombie movie. Guns seem to attract zombies much more so than usual

I was surprised by how cheesy it was. I was also surprised how they showed every execution up close.

Loved it. I buy the new issues as soon as they hit amazon. Can't wait to see how they do some of the stuff further ahead in the story.

I still think movies are better than tv because of the theater experience, musical scores, auteur direction, big budget set pieces, and did I mention the full movie going experience with an audience compiled of strangers?? There are more legendary actors on the big screen then there are legendary actors in TV..

    RE: Movies/TV:

The comic doesn't usually get into the nuances of survival more than your typical zombie/post apocalyptic movie. The benefit of having a series is the time they can take to tell the story and develop the characters.

As far as the entire movie experience - really the only thing that's different between big budget TV and big budget movie is the audience. Television shows can drop some serious cash on their production. Where it all pays off long term is being able to re-use sets.

And you have a great director/producer in Frank Darabont (Shawshank, The Mist).

RE- Cliche...yeah, the coma was done before in 28 days later. I remember reading the letters column when this series first came out and writer/creator said he hadn't seen 28 days later.

Too bad about the horse. However, they get more horses later. :)

The imagery there was pulled from the comic.

I told my GF, that kept hogging all the popcorn, this is the band of brothers of the Zombie genre!
Yeah, yeah, the waking up in the hospital is cliche, but it only got better after that.
btw, It's good to see Dr. Sarah tancredie back in action.

I'm a big fan of the comics so, I've been waiting for this.

Great way to start the series.

    Kill a child

    Kill a domesticated animal.

    Zombies know no morals.

Good first episode. I was also a bit disappointed with the whole wake up from a coma to zombie-world thing done yet again but whatever. This is still one of my three favorite shows now.

to those who know the comics, i just want to know.. are all these people going to meet up eventually and become a single group or are we just going to watch 3 or 4 different and separate storylines?

and are there more main characters to come?

    Without being too spoilerish...

There are more characters to come. (some pretty cool ones, too)

They do go off to do some stuff from time to time, which creates different storylines.
