I think Adelman is tired of being asked the same repetitive questions regarding Yao's minutes than Yao's allocated time being the actual problem. The chemistry on the team that doesn't look good to me right now is between Brooks & Martin.
FFFFFFF that. i hate JVG. hes wrong half the time and our coach is much better. compare the winning to losses
when are seasons like the 04/05 season going to stop satisfying us as Rocket fans? that team was a first round bounce from the playoffs. i suppose i'm just spoiled, having grown up in the era of Hakeem for this franchise. but when we're hoping to be as good as the 04/05 season again, something's amiss.
So very true... This is a point worth re-emphasizing. They have far too many one-dimensional players on this team. A lot of these players were acquired to be so-called "assets" to be used in a trade for Bosh, Carmelo whomever - something that didn't happen. So now RA is faced with the task of trying to assemble a rotation out of a roster filled with players who really don't coexist as a unit all the while trying to work his only star player who is coming back from yet another injury. It will only get worse once Dampier shows up. Guys like you foresaw this while everyone else here was bleating over how "deep" this team was and crowing about all of the "pieces" Morey had assembled to be used in a trade for star player. Once again (it's like deja vu all over again), I am seeing blame for the miscalculations of the front office being laid on the head coach who is stuck with making all this work on the court (somehow). Oh yeah, and he has to win games while doing so.
Five games in a row(including two pre season games vs Mavs, vs Spurs), we crashed in second half. Someone please stand out and explain it.
AB's problem's specifically: * Poor Passer * Jumps in the air with no idea of what he's going to do * Doesn't understand when to lay the ball up using the reverse instead of getting it blocked * Defense is horrendous, I thought Kenny stuck to screens like glue. Just isn't tough enough to defend larger guards.
I guess I'll wait a while before issuing a bunch of knee jerk reactions after only 3 games. I've seen good things and bad things. Yao is better than I thought he would be this early in the season but certainly not a finished product yet. At times the offense has looked great but last night the 3 ball was not dropping and the ref's were just horrible. Kyle Lowry gets tackled and needs 4 stitches and that was not a foul while Bud barely brushes his body against Melo and that is a foul? I've seen teams before start the season off slow and finish strong. SA was well known for having slow starts to the season. Dallas a few years ago started 0 - 4 only to finish with the best record in the league. I've seen teams start fast only to fizzle be mid December. So I'll just reserve judgement until we have a much larger sample size.
OK, coach Adelman has made some questionable decisions, so far, and is not free from blame in the three losses. However, summing up the astute observations of our posters there seems to be an overarching thread to the Rockets problems, so far. There is every reason to believe that the coaching staff prepares the game plan on both sides of the court and they make sure that every player understands the overall schemes before every game. The coaches can only really hope that their main players, especially those in the regular rotation, grasp the plan and accept the responsibility to execute it. Having said all these, every elite team in the NBA which has been successful has that one or two players who are the on court leaders and they are the ones who organize the players to play according to the game plan. Those players are usually the pg's or point forwards who initiate the offense, call the plays, and so forth. They are usually referred to as the team leaders. In the case of the Rockets, the argument and theories about Yao's minutes disrupting the rhythm and identity of the team, while true to a certain extent, is not the main culprit in their current losses. I would argue that, when a coach puts in a player or players, as subs or as starters, the on court coach or quarterback has the responsibility to call out the adjustments and to make everyone on the court accountable for their own responsibilities. The quarterback has to be the leader and coach on the court. The Rockets do not have that quarterback in Brooks due to his mind set which is that of a sg in a pg's body. It is not a fluke that when Lowry is playing there is more flow and organization to the offense and defense because he is mentally more of a pg than a sg, i.e. the on court leader whose first instinct is to organize the team instead of scoring first. I think we will be very pleasantly surprised at the results if Adelman so much as starts Lowry over AB even if it's only for one game, as an experiment. The best move by the Rockets though, going forward, is to get an elite pg, wherever they can find him, heck get one from the WNBA if it is possible at all. This current pg combo is not going to cut it.
Martin shot 39%... which isnt great, but its 2 baskets away from shooting 50%.... then no one would complain and we'd still lose by 9 pts or so. He also got to the line a few times and hit all of his FTs. Take less 3s maybe, but he hardly ruined the game. Now Lowry and Miller shooting 1-13, THAT we can whine about.
Thats really the only thing that's a significant problem. He's too good of a scorer to focus on his lack of passing. He's improved in that area. The problem this game was that he should have swung the ball around in a couple instances and he instead shot a contested shot. He's usually pretty good at avoiding shot blockers and using his reverse, this game they just covered him well.
they just gotta play some D.. right now they are focusing only on offense. No D means no discipline.. like the game against Golden State, they should not try to race with them to see who could score more.. what they need is to play some D to stop them. due to the JVG era, Rockets had solid D for the next several seasons even after JVG left. But now they are getting more and more people and that discipline is going away.. gotta get that back if they want to win games.
I love my Rockets but I think 3 problems that I've been seeing. 1. RA and his lack of calling time outs and subbing the first second the other team starts to look like they are going to make a run. Then bringing in Lowry who has been out with injuries for most of the game and keeping our HUGE C/PF in Chuck Wagon for most the game. Why no bring in Jared Jeffries after that game last night couldn't have gone worse at least he probably would have played better D against Harrington. 2. Brooks, what is his deal? Im thinking he's upset about his contract or something. He has no chemistry with the team for some reason. 3. Lowry, Why in the heck has he been jacking up 3s lately? He's not a shooter, he needs to distribute the ball to the people who can shoot and play defense. I'm not seeing the play I saw last year. Maybe he's not working hard like he did to earn that contract. I'm so bothered that we lost our opener. We had the huge gathering before the game just to watch some dismal play. I understand that you have your good days and bad days. Heck we played quite well up til the 4th quarter, despite not going to the free throw line as much as Denver and only shooting 1 for 12 while Denver was 6 for 19 behind the 3pt line.
