I try not to be a jerk but I will admit it I fail at it often. That said the poster's comment was one that has been debated and addressed quite a bit before two years ago. Bringing it up now as some sort of gotcha! strikes me as not just outdated but a failed attempt at any sort of biting commentary.

This has been debated ad nauseum. If you want to redebate it I suggest you search for one of the previous threads. This is about as fresh and topical as FFB bringing up this week that Conan O'Brien is losing the Tonight show.

Also is what I said an insult? I agree its a bit snarky but if you feel insulted by that honestly you need a thicker skin.

Again because that is a private function so they control the stage and who is allowed on it. Also if you did get stomped you could sue and likely the people who did the stomping could still be charged with assault. Just because it is a private function doesn't give the organizers a right to assault someone they find obnoxious.

Anyway as even you agree the Paul supporters did more than just escort Valle off. At the same time where this incident took place wasn't a private function where the Paul campaign can determine who has access. It was on a public thoroughfare and everyone has the right to approach someone else's car. Be it a protester or a windshield washing guy.

And that person should've been charged with assault also.

Oh, I was invited. I just gave an unexpected performance. What if I refuse to give up the mike? How "forceful" can they be in removing me?

I'm not sure about your assertion that, de facto, everyone has a right to approach... seems to me like some communities have outlawed those windshield washing guys/gals. There are also rules against jay-walking on public thoroughfares, so the idea that anything goes on a public property has holes in it--- reasonable, rational holes to be sure but holes nonetheless.

Just because you are invited doesn't give you cart blanche to do what you want. Again in a private function it is up to the organizers to decide what goes. That is the different between private and public.

There are measures of reasonableness that are written in the laws regarding force. If you are just hanging onto the mic stand yes they could probably manhandle you off the mic but one thing that is clear in almost every law regarding the use of force is that someone who is not resisting cannot be further beaten.

I am sure there are differences in the laws, keep in mind a gated community is private property so that doesn't apply, but I know things like anti-panhandling laws have been challenged on First Amendment grounds.

While yes there are rules regarding jay-walking that isn't relevant here as Valle was approaching on a public sidewalk. That said I will agree that jay-walking laws limit when someone can approach on safety grounds but not the principle regarding public access. Someone can approach your car within the bounds of jay walking laws which would be the case here.

I believe most Jaywalking laws apply to someone crossing the street. She was not crossing the street.

Who's not invited to a public event? So Valle was "invited" and so she doesn't have "carte blanche to do whatever (she) want(s)..."

Her actions we calculated and deliberate; the "defenders" were more out of line but were dealing with a situation with damaging potential-- and I don't just mean embarrassment to Paul. Maybe not likely but still a certain possibility.

You don't use physical force on unlikely but possible.

Why are you trying to say they stopped her because she was a possible threat? Nobody connected with the campaign has even said that. It's just something you made up.

I wasn't even trying to associate that with Valle-- just the notion that anything goes on a public thoroughfare. I don't think that is true; jaywalking is an example of that not being true.

The main perpetrator was quoted as saying that himself in commenting about his apology. Maybe you should read both sides of the story...

"These supporters were not very nice to me and my message, which is the same as everyone else. I just wanted to get out here with a sign, but I got my head stepped on," Valle told Louisville's Fox41. "I have a bit of a headache." (She later said her face was swollen and her neck and shoulder were sore.) Profitt said he was sorry. "I apologize if it appeared overly forceful," he told the Associated Press, "but I was concerned about Rand's safety."

I had looked for statements from Rand's campaign. We know that Profitt is an idiot, and this statement shows it even more.

Good, I'm objective enough to know that stomping on the head of a pinned down, non-resisting woman who was known is crazy.

No she doesn't but within the bounds of the First Amendment she is allowed to approach a politician put a sign up to him and try to embarrass him. Again you are making an argument that would greatly harm political expression in the public realm.

If that is not allowed by Kentucky law I would be interested in seeing that citation.

Sure her actions where calculated and deliberate but that isn't a crime. As far as her defenders just because they acted in the heat of the moment doesn't excuse their behavior. I mean if I see a guy running up to my GF on the sidewalk can I go up and slam him to the ground and then claim "well I was just reacting to a situation with damaging potential."?

Do you think the Secret Service would just stand idly by while someone rushed toward Obama?
