In preseason he was angry because Adelman didn't really give the main players the chance to play and get the rhythm of 4th quarter situations or get used to 4th quarter games since kind of by his words 'its a different game in the 4th'. As of now we are playing 3 quarters of decent ball and playing absolutely atrocious in the fourth. People got mad at Martins complaints but I think he was dead on and the team isn't gelled/prepared for the extra intensity that comes into play in 4th quarters. Not using the preseason to prepare for 4th quarters has come to bite us in the @$$ for three straight
yes, because preseason 4th quarters are just as intense as regular season 4th quarters..... our guards just suck in the 4th, period. whether this is because they have two different playbooks in their heads (yao on court/yao off court) or because of some other issue, it remains to be seen.
Now this is a thread from a sentient being. Adelman has too many guns in his arsenal that he has not figured out which ones to use, and he keeps dragging out the ancient relics because they are comfortable too him and leaving better guns locked in the tool shed. DD
Agreed 100%, and it was pretty much exactly what I was saying when his comments were brought up on this forum. This team has absolutely no clue how to play with one another in the 4th. The preseason would have been a pretty good time to try to develop that, but they didn't.
I don't know if it has anything to do with the preseason minutes, but it seems like KM has a hard time getting to the line in the fourth quarter. I can't recall a specific instance, but I remember him being stopped cold on a few drives he's tried to make in "high leverage" moments so far this season. Today in particular, neither one of the starting guards were able to get anything going consistently. Wednesday cannot get here soon enough. Hopefully these guys can get a win versus a hot division rival.
the preseason was a waste of time for everyone except for ish smith and all those cats on chinese shoe deals (half the roster, i know).
We need about 40 preseason games to figure it out. The problem is our starting 5 is average at best while our second string is above average. There are too many players that are almost as good as the next. Lee and Lowry are our two best backups but neither has proven better than the starters. Budinger is much better offensively but still makes mistakes and is a significant drop on defense. Yao is our best option at center but his minutes are like a backup so really you might as well consider him the best backup center in the league. Scola is a lock t the 4 but he is a bit of a liability at that spot. Hayes is supposed solidify that spot defensively but he hasn't delivered as good as I had expected. Plus for all the hoopla of his improved offense he still misses open layups and free throws. And he is average at best on the pick and roll. Where do we improve and will it really be an improvement. I like Lee but is he better than Battier just yet. Adding Dampier is that really going to help or will it just create more bodies at an already overstaffed position. I say don't sign Dampier until we figure out who is out of the rotation. I now agree with DD, we need to get it down to a 9 man rotation. Whether that rotation includes Yao or not not. But who is that 9 man rotation. Any suggestion... Maybe DD can start a new thread about it.
I have one coming tomorrow, but it is not based entirely on this...but it does touch on that. Too many people panicking, calling each other idiot, or moron....and genuinely have no clue about the game overall. So, gonna wait to get some intelligent conversation going tomorrow. DD
I'm more and more open to a trade now with each passing game. We have too many players that need playing time.
I agree with you DD. A season is not made in the first 3 games. We were not expected to win all 82 games this year. We will lose around 32 games. So we got 3 out of the way real quick. We are still trying to work out our rotations. We are the ONLY team in the league having to monitor the minutes of our star player. The player we have built this team around. Now we will have to add another player to the rotation over the next few weeks. So more adjustments to come people. I think the team will start coming together in a couple of weeks. People will start figuring out their roles (with and without Yao in the lineup) and start clicking. Then all this panicking will stop.
Ah shucks. I saw the thread title and thought that Martin actually dressed up as Carmelo for Halloween and you were gonna post a pic. -_-
