A crate is a godsend...it helps dogs with separate anxiety and for them to calm down. I always make sure Bo gets at least some form of daily exercise. He is a monster if he does not get his exercise. We still crate him at nights and he is fine with it. We started leaving him out of the crate but lock him in our bedroom. He is fine, he just gets up on our bed and sleeps on it all day. never had to deal with destruction simply because we kept him crated or in one room.
Yeah, I was also going by the bark statement she mentioned in the initial post too. Because of their body shape, dachshunds (as you probably know) produce a very deep bark and sound much bigger than they actually are. Everything you mentioned is pretty spot on. We're actually thinking about adopting another one.
We have this monster...I definetely recommend a GSD if you have room. People that come to our door are scared *****less. Its funny, we have a stormdoor, and when we open our front door and they see this beast they nearly fall back.
AMP Talent Group You should get a shih tzu. This would be a good lap dog and guard dog. They bark when strangers come around. /they are very playful. They love attention and love to give attention.
I have some questions: My girlfriend knows somebody who is either going to adopt their dachshund out or take it to the local animal control. We'd like to take it in, if it gets along with our current pooch. 1. Our current pooch is a male and this one is also a male, are there more likely to be problems given this fact? 2. The dog we're thinking about adopting is said to have fleas. Our dog doesn't as he get regular flea/tick treatments. How should we handle this problem if we decide to take him in?
1.Let the dogs meet each other and see if they get along. If your dog and the other male are fixed then there shouldn't be any agressive problems. 2. Get the dog with fleas on some flea and tick medication and give it a bath with shampoo that kills fleas and their eggs.
Yeah, we planned to do that. They are both fixed though. Yeah, I was thinking about quarantining him to the garage until the shampoo and Frontline applications took effect.
If you want a sturdy small dog, then I'd recommend a Bichon Frise. They're very healthy dogs that live a long time and mine is at least very playful. I take him on walks/runs ranging anywhere between 1-5 miles a day. I take him to dog parks all over Austin and he gets along great with other well socialized dogs. He loves to play fetch and is good at tricks and is always full of energy. Spoilered the pics. Spoiler Only negatives are that he loves the water and his coat gets dirty very easily. He doesn't shed, but does require daily grooming to prevent tangling. Because he's a non-shedding breed, he also a magnet for dirt, seeds, burs, leaves... anything he walks on. One final negative is that he's not really much of a guard dog. I've never been threatened by a break in so maybe my dog would alert me, but he doesn't bark at people that are walking past the fence when he's outside or bark at people that knock on our front door. His bark isn't deep and he usually only barks to seek attention. He's not a guard dog. Great companion dog though. Other than that, he's one of the happiest dogs I know, is extremely playful and fun to be around, can be left alone for hours throughout the day and just nap or entertain himself, and is an extremely healthy, long living breed.
Well, at seven months her brother (who I own) looked like this: The litter is out of a line of American Bulldogs that are badass catch hogs but also do man-work (as in bite the bad guy). The Dutch Shepherd is out of KNPV lines (google that if you're bored). I don't think any of the pups will catch hogs as well as the ABs or do police work like the DS does but they will be (are) some of the best all-around dogs I've seen. My pup is super stable no matter where I take him or what I expose him too. He is also very tolerant of strange people and loves kids but will light up a bit if someone seems "off" to him (I have only seen him do this twice but both times it was appropriate IMO). He is as tough as nails but more patient than any dog I've seen.
There are plenty of natural flea preventatives. Use DE for flea prevention...it can be used for any other parasites. http://wolfcreekranch1.tripod.com/diatomaceous_earth.html http://www.dirtworks.net/Diatomaceous-Earth.html http://www.earthworkshealth.com/products.php? http://wapedia.mobi/en/Diatomaceous_earth http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Diatomaceous_earth

Yep, my dog's love their cage. I put them all in there when I leave the house. All I have to do is reach into the cookie (dog biscuit) box, and they run across the house and into their cage waiting for me. Something like this : My dogs treat it like a dog house, their place to relax and sleep while I'm gone.
Perfect dog if you are interested in that kinda of stuff. The dog's poo gets very very long if that's your kind of fetish.
I think you should get a ***insert random dog breed***. I have one and it's great because ***insert random quality***. It's the best breed ever, so definitely get a ***insert previously mentioned dog breed***! ***insert random dog photos***.
