OK had a virus a couple weeks ago, ran every anti spyware software in the book and it didn't work... had to reboot the PC and it was perfectly fine, not all of a sudden it starts up and when it goes to the desktop, its a completely blank screen. I can see and move my cursor, but there is nooooothing else there.

When looking at the task manager, nothing is running.

I boot the PC up in safemode, and it does the exact same thing. I can't even run System Restore if I wanted to....

    What can I do?

~in before the ALIENS and 911 conspiracy jokes~

What is "every antispyware"? Name some, please.

What happens when you try to do "CTRL+Alt+Del" on the blank screen? Try it.

Some of the antispyware Ive used on the virus 2 weeks ago was McAfee, ad aware, hijackthis, spybot sd, malwarebytes, and a couple others i cant think of.

And like I said, I did ctrl alt dlt and was able to open the task manager. But thats all I can do.

In task manager, click File -> New Task, type "explorer.exe" (without the quotes), then hit Enter.

    What happens?

open task manager > run new task > explorer.exe

    this will refresh your desktop

if if doesnt want to run the file, the explorer.exe may be corrupted or missing

yeah It doesnt find explorer.exe... Im even looking in my C://Windows folder and don't even see it when browsing. I can open up other programs that way though.

How can I fix the explorer.exe file?

Could be that your explorer.exe had a virus module attached to it. I would think a windows repair would do the trick.

You're better off backing all of your data off and reinstalling everything from scratch.

Do you have the OS cd?
If yes, insert it, In task manager, click File -> New Task, type sfc /scannow and click OK

you need to restore the system if the explorer isn't shown up. That's the easiest way around it. You can attempt to repair it. I'd just backup all your documents, pictures, music etc. And just restore it.

If you don't know what you're doing or don't have a tech friend.

I'd recommend going to Staples because all their tech work is 50% off right now.

I think it's ~$30 to get your system restored and updated etc. (back up and running, if you have your restore disks otherwise they have to be ordered for like $25-40, depending on manufacturer.)
