Watching Hubie Brown comment on the Portland-LAC game I was struck by the respect he gave to the Rockets. He predicted that the Rockets would get to the playoffs this season and displace one of last year's teams, based on his observations of the LAL game. I don't have his exact quote, but basically he liked what he saw with Yao and the Rockets. Then over the next couple of days I was struck by the comments of various other talking heads on ESPN that echoed the exact same sentiment--that they were impressed by the Rockets based on that LA game.
Some people on ESPN are actually pretty good like Hubie Brown, Chad Ford, JVG, and Sheridan 9who actually predicted us to be the 2nd seed in the West). Others like JA Adande, Broussard, and a few others are douches.
Damn, recognition early in the season? We like to fly under the radar first and surprise people. Then when they start hoping on the Bandwagon that is when the wheels start to fall off. Now I see why we've been struggling, we got respect too early in the season.
Love watching Brown and Doug Collins call games--my two favorites by far. Of course, Collins is coaching again.
Call me a hardened Houstonite, but I don't get overly concerned by the media's perception of us. When you're not in a mega-major metropolis like NYC, LA, or Chicago, the media takes a long time to notice you, even if you're good. Much as I hate to say it, this applies even moreso to teams in cities like Salt Lake and OKC. Sure, Durant gets props, but only during the past year, when he totally dominated (he was pretty damn good for two years before that, too, but few in the national media noticed outside of Bill Simmons). If and when the Rox totally dominate - like win 60 games or a title - we will get major national media attention. Till then, let's be content to toil quietly.
im almost positive all of those expert analysts on espn, or even charles barkley(who doesnt even watch the games in the studio) saw the rockets play for the first time since the 2009 playoffs the other night.
