Carter counts for Toronto. He's the player they came away with on draft night.

    Carter counts
    Batum counts.

The question says in the draft. Both of these guys were traded to their team during the draft so it counts.

    Minnesota - Kevin Garnett/Stephon Marbury

Could have been special if not for jealousy.

Good call, If Marbury wasn't so jealous they could have been great. For Marbury Karma really got back at him.

    Boozer isn't a franchise guy.

It's just not the same without brian_chapman.

oops, what was i thinking. but yeah, as pointed out later, Boozer/Lebron

Carter was drafted by Toronto as much as we drafted Eddie Griffin. It was a prearranged trade Antawn for Carter, between the #4 and 5 picks. Toronto just wanted extra money for their pick.

    Pierce/Billups? drafted in back-to-back years

also, definitely, Alonzo and Grandmama were the talk of the early '90s, drafted back to back years

We should have won more titles. When you consider we had the 1 & 3 pick followed by the 1 pick the next year. Of course drugs and injuries got in the way.

Does Nash with the Suns count? Cuz they drafted him. Or the Hornets. They drafted Kobe and Paul. No of course it doesn't count. Seriously though plenty of teams have built through the draft, especially back in the day.

You guys are all missing the point. I'm talking about players drafted by their respective teams, stayed with them and signed *max contracts, and are worthy of that *max contract.

    *or close to max

Eliis and curry?? I know they aren't max deal players now, but to me
they are both capable franchise players. Ellis may have lit us up last night, but curry has the tools to be a complete stud in this league, IMO

OK, but you don't make sense vs your first post, though. Westbrook is not a max player, yet. And saying he will be soon doesn't seem to qualify with your implied tenure requirement. Plus, Ginobili and Parker aren't max players (or close to it), so why did you mention the Spurs as another example. Maybe you confused us? Zo and Grandmama should surely count. It's not as rare as you portray.

Agreed - Westbrook is a good PG but I struggle to see him ever being a top 7 player at his position. Over the next 5 years or so you'll likely see John Wall, Derrick Rose, Rajon Rondo, Deron Williams, Chris Paul, and Steph Curry all ahead of him as top PGs in the league - and that's based on my belief that Tyreke Evans will fall off...then he still has to compete for being in the 7/8 range with guys like Brandon Jennings, Darren Collison, Devin Harris, and Jameer Nelson. Hell, some of the homers here might even think Aaron Brooks is better(not me for the record). And all of that assumes no more great young PGs come into the league via draft or Europe(Rubio).

Westbrook may be a good fit for that team but he is NOT a max guy. You should be congratulating OKC on building a team based on need and chemistry rather than talent.

Steph Curry is not a better PG than Westbrook and I don't see him ever being a better pg than Westbrook.

Seriously? Did you forget that Westbook is a very streaky shooter and isn't a particularly gifted passer? He's fearless and takes it strong to the hoop...he is athletically gifted, but those aren't the types of things that translate into long careers. Shooting, next level court vision, and basketball IQ are and those are 3 things Curry has in spades. I like Westbrook and I absolutely think he will be a great pro, but Curry as a rookie was miles ahead of Westbrook. Curry is the 2nd coming of Steve Nash.

I thought you were talking about franchise players in the SAME draft. If you are talking about separate drafts, it's not that hard. If you suck long enough, you get to have lots of high picks. The Clippers drafted many franchise players. They just don't keep them together very long.
