yeah if the james signs with miami a rookie like spoelstra is not gonna be able to coach 3 stars. riley is gonna have to take over either after the allstar break or the playoffs.
His job is indeed in jeopardy. I see two scenarios. A) The Heat for some inexplicable reason hits big on all their other FA signings after Wade and Bosh, goes 30-11 1st half of the season, and Riley decides he needs to take over for the "stretch run". B) The Heat brings in crap around Wade and Bosh, hovers in mediocrity, and Riley decides he should just let Spoelstra take the blame for a while, and fire him at the end of the season. What Spoelstra needs to do is to win just enough not to get fired, but not win enough for Riley to get jealous. It could be a very delicate situation. He probably needs to tank here or there, or fire up his troops as the situation dictates.
Hahaha good one. What was his reason for axing Van Gundy again? He didn't feel the future NBA championship team was headed in the right direction?
I wouldn't be the least bit shocked if Riley took over the reigns at any point. He has a history of jumping in when the iron is hot and then leaving when the prospects aren't so good.
He won't be fired, he will have the opportunity to stay on the staff and resume as head coach sometime in the future. Sounds like a sweet deal to me. Riley is a mastermind. Spoelstra wouldn't have been able to coach anywhere else in the league, if anything he owes Riley for the opportunity. He owes him big.
i'm personally brimming with excitement for the next tweet about whats going to happen the nba. tweeting is the greatest form of communication since p*rnography.
Spoelstra was a big part of the FA recruiting process, and he's well regarded by Pat Riley. I'm pretty sure this was sort of a tongue-in-cheek thread given the OP, but he's not getting fired.
The better question is when will Spoelstra resign to spend more time with his family? And then how long before the Heat allow him to go coach somewhere else in return for draft compensation?
Look at this quote from Wade, Spoelstra is for sure getting fired soon: Erik Spoelstra = Developmental coach to Wade.
