Before every commercial break, he throws a foam football at the camera.

It is a subliminal message to show that he is more American then any other journalist/commentator out there.

    Because of his fundamental insecurity.

He is a complete fake. He tries entirely to hard. More of a douche than Beck, as Beck is more crazy, but possibly equally annoying tone.

I remember one time I stopped on his show because they had some dummy training pistols, and he kept on saying "Oh this is supposed to be a Glock BECAUSE THAT's WHAT I HAVE!!" Over and over. Yeah dude, I'm sure you are a huge gun nut. Not fake at all.

The football is obviously just another prop he feels portrays the image.

Pretty much; more American, more of a regular guy, less subject to criticism.

In most high schools, the culture/hierarchy is that playing football puts you at the top of the totem pole and that legitimizes your leadership and credibility.

From my personal experience, the stereotypical redneck-jocks later became the very people who avidly watch Fox News. Since Sean Hannity's audience comprises mainly of the people who were in or respected the football clique in high school, his throwing the football merely hints to his audience that he is a part of that hierarchy, and that they should listen to him.

Our class president, student of the year, model UN representative, and prom king was the quarterback. Coincidence?

You ruined a good run of "because he..." arguments that would only have gotten funnier!

    Damn you and your seriousness!

No offense to you personally, you may be a smart guy, but this argument is stupid. You realize how big the viewing audience for Fox News is right? They can't all be members of the cool kids club. A lot of them have to be band geeks, glee club members, drill team girls, etc.

Actually, given the demographics, I think the ones who weren't class president were more likely flappers, Ziegfeld girls, or members of temperance societies.
