Awesome post. If only because you got so many people to "contradict" you with long posts that actually agrees with you.

Hoping by 'raw' you mean extremely skilled and not 'raw' as in it usually used to describe athletes?

What are you talking about Yao can play 30 right now. it's the doctors stopping him and they are just guessing. They don't know how much stress his feet can handle. That is a lie to think they do. They are just guessing and Les wants Yao to make a complete season with the playoffs and they came up with this arbitrary number of minutes based on an educated guess. Yes they are more educated than me and most anyone else but it is still a guess.

Yao can play 30 minutes right now. But he might get a stress fracture tommorrow in practice after 5 minutes or he may never have a fracture in his feet ever again. Okay you are right that is a big if. But it is an if no one really has the answer too.

My guess is they will unleash him in the last 4-6 weeks of the season. And then he will be warmed up for the playoffs.

KG has looked pretty good in the preseason in his time out there, and with the additions of S. Oneal and J. Oneal they have enough depth to withstand not having Perkins at the beginning of the season.

    .............

Oh, and you gotta love JVG, the man speaks the truth!

I feel Yao can play 30mins per game EVEN NOW...you just have to know when to rest him. For example, he can play 8mins and rest for the rest of 1st quarter. Then come back and start 2nd quarter and play 4mins, then rest for 5 mins and then play 3mins to end the 1st HALF.

This is HOW YOU MANAGE Yao's minute...you don't play him 12mins straight like Adelman did 2 years ago...that is a recipe for tiredness and injury.

Yes omg coach bald JVG you are thus very loyal despite being involved in a either stacy or you goes out game.

Plz bestow your remarkable defensive tactics to Elston Turner so that we can also be great on D again. That way we have both O and D to trounce every team that goes in our way. ;)

At least he has us at 7.

Mullin on the other hand is a numbskull with no personality.

Surely BSPN can find a vet with more personality then him.

With how positive Van Gundy is about the Rockets as opposed to how much ESPN hates the Rockets, I'm surprised they haven't FIRED him.

JVG is great, when RA is done it's time to bring him back for his second run and hopefully we will have some players then for him to go with since DM is on the job.

Agreed. In an ideal world, (though JVG would never do something like this) would be Rick as head coach and JVG as our defensive assistant coach. Those guys could put us in the top 10 in offense and defense every year. /dream

Slightly Off Topic but I have noticed NBA 'experts' really are letting themselves down in general in regards to the 'expert' part. I have read countless season prediction articles that have used the excuse of 'Yao only being able to play 24 minutes will hurt them, they can't get past good teams in the playoffs with Yao only playing 20 minutes'(there is at least 4-5 articles going around with this or something similar)... I was just amazed paid journalists don't do enough research to realize it was always said he would play bigger minutes in Playoffs. I read another that had the Rockets predicted at 10th, because injury prone players like Martin/Yao would unlikely get a full season... forgetting the Rockets had a winning season with little of Martin and no Yao at all last season. I'm sure fans of teams not named Heat, Lakers, Thunder, Celtics and Magic would have examples too.

ESPN is obviously the worst but any basketball fan who doesn't have a wardrobe filled with Lebron James, Dwight Howard, Dwayne Wade and Kobe jerseys knows 90% of their 'experts' are far from it. If you want a good laugh read their 08 first round playoff predicts or how bad they predicted the Rockets would be last season or how we would be swept by the Lakers in 08.

Jeff Van Gundy is a great defensive coach. If only he know more about offense.

First off, Van Gundy looked like spring chicken compared to Hubie Brown (77) and Jack Ramsay (85). I like hearing old dudes talking basketball. Ramsay looks pretty spry for an 85 year old.

Second, notice how Van Gundy wasn't the only homer of a team he used to coach. Ramsay picked Portland to make a run against LA and of course he used to coach them back in the day.

Third, JVG's analysis is right. The Rox are a team that creates some serious matchup problems for LA. LA has been able to win in the west by 1) bullying other frontlines with their size, 2) Kobe's shot making w/ time running down, and 3) good veteran execution.

But we've got serious problems for LA. With Yao in, LA no longer has a size advantage, Shane can slow Kobe a little, Fisher can't keep up w/ Brooks, and Martin will still get his even if Kobe marks him since Martin gets shots from screens rather than by facing him up starting with the ball.

The one area we'll have some serious problems with is if they go big with Odom after Bynum gets back. Bynum, Pau, Odom, Kobe, Fisher. Who would match up well w/ Odom in that case?
