I dont think most make the comparison just because he's white...i mean, we compare black player to black players all the time, but no one is tired of that...sometimes the white player does play like a white player, as long as the comparison isnt obviously silly, then i dont think there's reason to be opposed to it.
He is developing very nicely...i dont see why he cant be an allstar...he's still young and not even starting..i think once he gets more time, the better he will become.
Grunch: physically and skillwise, Chase has all the tools to be a Hall of Famer. But the difference between a HOF and a scrub is all between the ears. If he develops mentally tougher, then the sky's the limit. If he doesn't, then he'll stay pretty much where he is, as a backup SF. No one can predict what he will turn into, so I assume he will stay as he is and be pleasantly surprised if he improves. Also, terrible poll options.
I believe he can be as good as a 08-09 t-mac.... statistically of course. T-mac's game was anti-smooth and attractive by that point haha...
Wait, are you guys actually convinced Budinger will be an all star in the long run? Code: Year Team GP GS MPG FG% 3P% FT% RPG APG SPG BPG PPG 2009–10 Houston 74 4 20.1 .441 .369 .770 3.0 1.2 0.5 0.2 8.9 I am all for the Rockets having a stellar season, but Budinger reminds me of a poor man's Griffin.
the thing about budinger is that his vertical jumping ability makes him appear more athletic than he is......i think that just came from years and years of playing volleyball, he practically worked his way to an above average vertical....unfortunately he's not the same going horizontally and diagonally, so to find his potential you'd have to make a comparison with a player who was primarly a shooter with a solid handle...then increase that a bit to account for Budinger's hops.
Chase will never be an all-star in this league. If he had that kind of talent he would have shown it by now. What he has shown is that he can be a very solid offensive player and that's nothing to be unhappy about.
Bud would only be a All-Star type player or even Mvp(highly doubt) if he gains the what I call "reggie miller vs the knicks" mentality. If he can bring that type of intensity to each and every game there is no doubt he could develope into something special.
Right now I haven't seen the shot creating ability that an all-star wing player usually possesses, which is why I say career solid role player. However, each summer we see players who add a different aspect to their game (fellow wildcat Channing Frye anybody?). With this coaching staff behind him Chase is set up to improve his game in the ways that he needs to.
With Shane's play in the last couple of years, I don't see him being a Rocket next year. Unless we land an upgrade over Chase, Bud will be the starter next season. Book it.
where is the BIRD? where is the BIRD? where is the BIRD? oh, man, hes on his way to sky... nah, im kiddin. i think he will be a solid starter at most, as i consider that fact that his driving and quickness cant help to create space for himself, he will be a wait-for-pass type of player. and IF he can keep being healthy, he will have several conspicuous seasons.
I was looking at some volleyball footage of Chase that I found on the internet and the kid could sky. It was the 18 year old national championships and Chase was easily the tallest dude on his team. I thought he had tremendous form serving, but I'm no expert. There's a discussion about him on a volleyball site if anyone is interested, along with some videos here and there. Some thought he would be on the national team by now, training for the Olympics, had he stayed with the sport. http://volleytalk.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=menvb&action=display&thread=34576 I'm a big fan of Air Bud, and have said before that he has the tools to be a starter in this league, perhaps even a borderline all star, but the jury is out on just how much he's willing to put into the game. Bud's a lousy one on one defender. He just is, and that's a weakness you have to wonder whether Bud will seriously improve on. I doubt if he'll get much better at that, but I think he can improve tremendously as a team defender, ala Rafer Alston, who was equally lousy as a defender, but improved a great deal under Van Gundy playing team defense. The thing about Bud is that he's great at moving without the ball, and that lends itself to being good on team D, IMO, so I think he has the potential to be good enough as a defender to not be a liability most of the time. Where Bud can be exceptional is on offense. He has a beautiful jumper if he has only a moment to get his feet set, but can be bothered by a tough defender staying with him and getting in his grill. Bud's a very good finisher, and with his hops, just get him the ball and a bit of space and he's going to score. Again, though, he needs to improve finishing when he's being pushed around. It wouldn't hurt for Chase to put on 10 pounds of muscle. I think he could carry it without having an adverse affect on his game. If Budinger becomes that "borderline all star," it'll be for his offensive skills. Scoring, moving well without the ball within the offense, and an underrated passing game is what I think we'll see a lot of improvement on this season, and what's going to take him as far as he's going to go. He's perfect for this offense. Chase just needs some seasoning and, most importantly, he needs to develop toughness, the ability to get his shot off when he's being knocked around, consistency on offense and defense. A commitment to playing defense every minute he's on the floor. Bud's has a good upside and, as others have said often, he was an absolute steal as a second round pick. I hope we keep him.
in this offense I see Bud developing into peja type player. maybe even a young brent barry. (thats if he can get the minutes)
