List any of your favorite composer music to help us all download For example, the Forrest Gump Feather Theme - Alan Silvestri
Without question, my choice would have to be Vangelis. "Chariots of Fire", "Bladerunner", and "1492: Conquest of Paradise" are all great CDs to listen to, IMO.
The "Band of Brothers" CD is not too bad. Also on my list, Apollo 13, Shawshank Redemption, Gladiator just to name a few. CK
Ennio Morricone - the gut that did the spagetti western music. I think the score for the Good the Bad and the Ugly is as good as movie music get. I specifically like The Trio(final scene),and The Ecstasy Of Gold (graveyard secene).
Awesome topic - I'm headed to Boston next Fall (2003) to study at Berklee College of Music in their Film Scoring Program. I was accepted for this Fall, but unfortunately, Berklee is real expensive and I'm financing this myself so I can't afford to go just yet. This will be my 2nd Bachelor's Degree so I'm out of luck on grants and can't get too much in the way of loans. Kind of sucks, but it will mean that much more once I make it through. Anyway, sorry for the background info.. It just kind of relates. Alright, my favorite film composer is Danny Elfman (Batman, Bram Stoker's Dracula, etc. etc.). I really like his darkness and his use of rhythm. He's a stud in my opinion. I'm not sure who did it, but I also love the Braveheart Soundtrack.
John Williams!! Forget about all the great Star Wars music, but the Jaws theme is probably the creepiest instrumental track in movie history...
I love movie music, so here's my HUGE list (by composer alphabetically): David Arnold Independence Day Stargate Wing Commander (he wrote the main theme) John Barry Dances With Wolves John Debney Cutthroat Island Randy Edelman Dragonheart Danny Elfman Batman Beetlejuice Edward Scissorhands Jerry Goldsmith Star Trek: Insurrection Star Trek: First Contact The Mummy Air Force One James Horner Star Trek II: Wrath of Khan Braveheart Jumanji Willow James Newton Howard Dinosaur Atlantis: The Lost Empire Trevor Jones Cliffhanger Randy Newman The Phantom The Natural Toy Story I & II Basil Poledouris Starship Troopers Conan the Barbarian Craig Safan The Last Starfighter Howard Shore LOTR: Fellowship of the Ring Alan Silvestri Back to the Future Forrest Gump The Mummy Returns The Abyss John Williams All Star Wars movies All Indiana Jones movies All Jurassic Park movies E.T. Close Encounters of the Third Kind Hook Superman Hans Zimmer Gladiator The Rock The Lion King Crimson Tide Backdraft (a.k.a. the Iron Chef theme)
James Bond Theme. The music from the (disney?) motion picture "The Black Hole" was very good. I actually heard it replayed on a sun night movie theme show on the classical station. Anyone know who did that or where to get it?
3fingeredgus, thats great news! congratulations and good luck. I just researched Danny Elfman and found out he is sometimes credited as Oingo Boingo. I never knew that . his list is quite impressive. I like that he works on most of Tim Burton's films. I never really paid too much attention to movie scores (sorry gus ) until I watched "American Beauty" -- the music just sounded so different. The composer's name is Thomas Newman (I think he's related to Randy). He also does the theme to "Six Feet Under" which I love. Here's a selected list of some of his other work: White Oleander (2002) Road to Perdition (2002) "Six Feet Under" (2001) TV Series (main title theme) In the Bedroom (2001) "Boston Public" (2000) TV Series (main theme) Pay It Forward (2000) Erin Brockovich (2000) Green Mile, The (1999) Three Kings (1999) American Beauty (1999) Oscar and Lucinda (1997) People vs. Larry Flynt, The (1996) "Arli$$" (1996) TV Series Shawshank Redemption, The (1994) Scent of a Woman (1992) Player, The (1992) Rapture, The (1991) Career Opportunities (1991) Less Than Zero (1987) Lost Boys, The (1987) Real Genius (1985) Desperately Seeking Susan (1985)
Angelo Badalamenti - Twin Peaks Peter Gabriel - Passion (music to The Last Temptation of Christ) Air - The Virgin Suicides Ennio Morricone - The Good, the Bad and the Ugly Miles Davis - A Tribute to Jack Johnson Tangerine Dream - Risky Business Johnny Klimek - Run Lola Run Henry Mancini - Pink Panther and its sequels But the grandaddy of all music composers is Bernard Herrmann. He's probably most famous for his work on Psycho, which has been ripped off by so many composers now that it's a cliche. Hermann was much more experimental than most movie composers (He actually "composed" the bird sounds for Hitchcock's The Birds). Go here and type in his name to see all of the great movies on which he worked. Dishonorable mention: Ron Grainer - The Omega Man (A really cool film utterly ruined by a bombastic, cheesy-sounding, organ-dominated soundtrack. If they ever release this on DVD, they should include the option to remove the music.)
sub, Great pick in Bernard Herrmann! Herrmann's music was a big part in making Hitchcock movies like "Vertigo", "Psycho", "North by Northwest", etc. to be such classics. However, his score to "Marnie" is my all-time favorite (I have the scores of Vertigo, Psycho, North by Northwest, and of course, Marnie all on CD)! It is a shame that would be the last time that these 2 great men would work with one another.
My favorite composers are Danny Elfman and Randy Newman...outstanding stuff which generally enhances the feeling the scene is seeking to evoke.
