Rockets defense relies too much on Chuck and Shane

We don't have Chuck for this game and We led the game until shane went to the bench. The "defence" I mean is rebound. Unfortunately, both hill and patterson are not as consistent in grasping the rebound as Chuck. We still had chance to win in the 4th quarter but everytime Blair got the offensive rebound or even got 2+1. Actually, hill and patterson are more physical talented than Chuck, but as we have seen, neither of them is reliable rebouder. By the way, patterson showed off his shoting range in this game, but I still think that is why he is not confident to play hard in low post. All right, I can't get any conclusion just from one game, but what I am saying is never expect too much from hill and patterson.

What are you talking about? Yao is by far the most important defensive piece on the team. By far.

but we still played impressive defence last year without Yao. I think it is the defence system that counts

Decent point. Shane is a very good leader on defense.

Impressive is not the word I'd use for our defense last season. I guess it was decent for a team without a shot blocker/changer in the middle, but it wasn't good by any measure.

Anyway, the defence we done last season was not bad for a team whose coach is Adelman

    Impressive for a team with a 6ft 6 center!

We rely on Chuck and Shane as effective defensive leaders on the court to pick up on what the opposition is trying to do. I expect Courtney Lee and Patterson to soon be able to fill in a similar role since they have excellent basketball IQ and a knack for defense.

Only if you think 21st in OPPG and 23rd in OFG% out of 30 teams is good.

It looks like not only was your writing mistranslated, but so was the logic of your argument.

He understood everything you said. No need for correction. Regardless, CF is a very diverse board. Welcome. ;)

I am quite certain that his English is better than any attempt I might make at his native language. I will never understand the people that try to make fun of someone who is clearly not a native speaker when they are making their point adequately. godpass's posts are a far cry from "Sura falls over in a faint."

Are we really going by a pre-season game? I doubt there will be long periods of time when we have nothing but 2nd and 3rd stringers out on the floor. Yes our bench is great, but still you can't expect to beat teams with nothing but your bench.

Brooks/Martin/Battier/Scola/Yao start for a reason, and if they all are sitting for long stretches then we're going to blow leads like that. In the 4th qtr pretty much all of the backups played.

Look, you're pretty much correct, except for the bolded word. That should be "for now". These guys are just starting out, Hill is basically a rookie as well, for all intents and purposes, and look how much progress he's making- he played some damn good defense last night, even when the team defense was falling apart in the 4th. Hell, he played better defense than Brad last night!

I guess the main point, as others have said is that it was team defense that fell apart in the 4th last night, and in the regular season, RA would have corrected that by modifying the lineup. Since it was preseason, there was no way he was going to put back some of the starters and settle down the rookies. Frankly, any of the vets could have settled the defense in the 4th, IMO, since it was not talent that was missing, but direction and focus. Those guys were having some rookie jitters.
