Stat line against the Spurs tonight: 21 points, 5 of 8 from the field, 4 of 5 from behind the arc in just 17 minutes of play time. Total preseason stats: 16 points per game on 9 shots, roughly 48% from the field and 50% from 3, in merely 22 minutes. I realize that is just preseason but it doesn't take away the fact that Martin has been extremely impressive in the Princeton thus far. I do expect these numbers to drop once the season starts obviously, but I can't help but think that Martin's play has a lot to do with this. Martin has talked about never feeling 100% for the past 2 years until the start of training camp. Martin's numbers in his last 'healthy' season: 24 points per game 45% from the field 40% from three 10 free throws attempts per game These are his numbers without a premiere big men to feed off of and Rick Adelman's offense. The biggest issue with the Rockets has been that they don't have a designated focal point (at least one that plays more than half the game), if Martin could produce anything like this then I can easily see Houston slipping into the top half of the Western Conference standings. Of course like every year for a Rockets star its if he can stay healthy. Btw anyone remember this statement from Morey?
I approve of this message. If we have a great record and he plays like that he may be an all star this year.
Martin seems to have this uncanny ability to just Jedi-mind-trick his defender into fouling him. He just drives into them, then elevates and takes an awkward looking shot, and it seems 9 times out of 10, the defender will foul him.
Shooting fouls don't count as attempts right? Seems like if you want an accurate analysis, you should include all attempts. Otherwise you don't really know how many possessions it took for him to score those points. Actually, I suppose TS% takes that into account.
The FT% should give you a good idea.....i think with him you know it's going to be pretty efficient..may not be the case with a bad free throw shooter.
i wonder what are carmelo's numbers/stats?........ lol does this make martin better?? answer my ponder!!!!
I always considered Carmelo an inefficient scorer. I know plenty of people will disagree but he needs the ball in his hands. His usage is one of the highest in the nba right?
LOL! The fact that Martin looks like some Arab dude here is even better! On another note, I think this bodes well for Kmart. Yes there will be much better D in the regular season, but at the same time KM will be playing with our main guns instead of the rookie combo so it won't be that huge a difference. If you think about it having a lights out shooter was the real reason the the teams with mac and yao failed. There were all these open looks but we had Head and Reefer shooting blanks all game long. Having someone like KM who hits open shots with consistency is definitely a godsend.
I think I heard the announcer on 2k11 say that Martin was the only player ever to shoot 40%3pt and average 8FT attempts per game (and he has done it twice).
Don't get me wrong, it's good stats for efficiency; however, it's not that impressive since he's taking only around 10 or less shots a game. In no sense is he carrying the team. It's great for efficiency that he's selective with his shots, but he's not carrying the team like a kobe bryant or an all star of his team would do. And you can't argue that the rockets don't need him as an all star because they do. ANd capability wise...I don't know if he's capable to do that in each game.
He's only playing 21 minutes a game during the preseason, getting around 10 FGA and 6 FTA in these minutes. How many shots do you think he should take in 21 minutes if he were less "selective"? Given you are talking about Kobe. Kobe averaged 21 FGA and around 7 FTA in 39 minutes last season.
I thnk you're missing the point. He scores. A lot. We're not talking about a highly efficient 10 pts. We're talking 20+ in under 20 mins. If he can keep up, or at l east close to that, can you imagine what he can do in 10 to 15 more minutes? I dont think they care, if he can carry a team or not. If this guy can score 25+ with great efficiency before they even get to the last few minutes of the game, then he's done his job. He's not here to be Kobe.
I like what I'm seeing from Kmart. He's got his shot back and is scoring in bunches quietly, as usual. But he doesn't look improved on the defensive end at all. I'm not pinning our defensive woes solely on him, but he's not making very many plays on that end.
Uh, so do you have a point? I really think KM's not going to have a single fan, and the only time he'll be discussed around here is when he's injured or doesn't drop 30 when it could have helped.
