I know this was probably a freak accident, but Miller was ridiculously injury prone last season. He always had one ailment or another...even when he was able to play. I don't think he's going to help the Heat as much as some are expecting.

I think Miller is very important for them. He's the best shooter in the team. Neither LeBron nor Wade are very good at catch and shoot. The opposition will zone in the middle and they'd have trouble if no one can spread the floor.

James Jones is another injury-prone player but he will surprise people as a fill-in for Miller. The guy has ice-water in his veins and is very good at drilling open jumpers in crunch-time. He's not the passer/creator Mike Miller is, but the Heat will be fine.

It's crazy, Mike Miller's only played 82 games once in 10 years (rookie year).

Without Mike Miller the Heat have some problems.

All they have left now is James Jones to shoot the 3's.

Teams will pack the paint and dare the Heat to shoot jumpers.

Dang...it's THAT serious that it has to be mentioned with something so bad.

When I first heard about it, I thought it was some minor thing and he'd miss a week or two. But reading some more, it's his thumb on his shooting hand.

If you think you can run a zone against a team with Lebron and Wade, you don't know what a zone is.

The Zone was the best possible defense to run against Lebron and Wade.

And now with Miller out, it's really a no-brainer to run Zone against the Heat. James Jones is the only "zone buster" on that team.

Yes, that would work if this were high school basketball. The best way to beat a zone is not by shooting over it, but by penetrating it, especially in transition. And Wade and Lebron are the two best at this in the entire NBA.

Do you really think standing inside the 3pt line and doubling the guy with the ball is going to stop these guys? Or do you want to push it further and pack the paint? Three-seconds notwithstanding, you can't give any of the big three an open mid-range jumper.
