Seriously, some get over 20+ mil for less than a year's amount of work which most people would be willing to do for minimum wage/free. This is not a knock on Tracy or anybody, but I just don't think playing a basketball game or baseball game or football game should have a payroll that high...
Yes, they are paid way too much. Their pay should be cut and that money should go to the billionaire owners instead.
Lol, next time people complain about what teachers are paid versus athletes think about how much money you spend on jerseys, tickets, concessions, video games, etc. versus on schools. It's our fault.
If you don't like how much they are getting paid then stop being a fan and supporting them. Because you are in the end allowing them to make more $ I'm so sick of this "Athletes get paid to much" crap. Yes athletes get paid a large amount, but they are doing physical feats that almost no humans can do. Thus why they make the big bucks. And these over-paid athletes and teams have a huge positive economic impact on the cities they are located in and the surrounding areas.
Not really what does an actor get for a top sitcom episode? 2 million? Its entertainment. Now are certain athletes over paid no doubt! but overall I dont think so.
pretty much...yes, theyre overpaid, but by fans. I dont think thats ever going to change, but i'd like to see the money re-distributed, so more benefits fans. Set certain standards in place for all stadiums, game night entertainment, lower food prices, etc.
Hard to say, they deserve a significant cut considering the amount of money that they bring in. However, many franchises are financially troubled. If these troubles are brought on because of salaries and not stupid management decisions, than salaries should be reduced.
I wouldn't say money they 'deserve', but the economics of it justifies it. People are willing to pay money for tickets, advertising, etc etc... Unless the owners pocket ALL of it, a portion of it should go to the players. It's a business.
I agreed 100% with RocketMania1991 and Phillyrocket. The problem is mostly a systemic/social one. It's not right to criticize a single instance of a $20m salary in a vacuum. Think about how teachers/fire fighters/cops make and how most of those department budgets are being cut. Yet the sports and entertainment industries grow by billions each year. I shudder to think most people now believe doctors are overpaid, when they go through more than a decade of schooling/training and spends hundreds of thousands of dollars on said schooling. Yet the sports and entertainment industries continue grow by billions each year (and conversely individual athletes' salaries). I can't honestly complain of them being overpaid when I know I've contributed to that problem.
Athletes do away with an average life of having peace and family and spend hours on end everyday working out to entertain us. They're like soldiers being sent to war. They're getting paid just fine.
I'm sick of the overpaid athlete whining ... I don't hear near so much complaining about actors that get paid huge bucks to make crappy movies. Yes many would love to play sports for minimum wage, but the bottom line is that they would rather pay a real athlete $20 million than pay you $5/hr. What doest that tell you about your athletic ability and athletic value. Every athlete gets what they are worth because they found someone to pay them that amount of money.
I don't even know where to start with such a bad post. Obviously, it's a mistake to compare them to soldiers. Beyond that, these are guys who spend roughly a decade of their life doing something they love while getting paid insane amounts of money to work part of the year. Including off season regimens, they get as much, if not more vacation than the average working man when it's all said and done.
I went to school 8 years after high school... If I work 30 years, I will gross approximately 10 million dollars. But, if I could run faster or jump higher, I'd make that money in 1 year, right out of college. Yeah, athletes get paid too much. Unfortunately, our society places entertainment above education/health, so this is why things are the way they are.
ARE YOU NOT ENTERTAINED?! seriously, they get paid too much... and we all contribute, but some much much more than others. Thing is, when times get tough, average joe and family wants/needs the diversion/entertainment more than ever, which really is when people should be more discerning and less tolerant to pay such ridiculous prices for tickets, jerseys, beers..... whatever. While that retraction does happen to a certain extent, obviously things would have to get pretty bad before anything will change drastically. Which means really most don't want it to change enough for it to happen.
