Without having to worry about the fickle opinions of the voters, lobby groups, these Chinese politicans just sit there and plan 5 years at a time. It has been working like magic for them since they woke up 30 years ago. Never in the history of mankind has such a vast country of 1.3 billion people been run like a company. So far its stocks have been rising. Will it fall one day? I'm pretty sure it will. But the trillion dollar question is: when?

Ironically, although they get the most heat, the top Chinese leaders are quite good at running the country. China's biggest problems in its government actually stem from corruption at the mid-to-lower level of bureaucracy and public sector. And of course the private sector is just rampant with problems with those trying to satisfy foreign corporation demands for cheap products(i.e. making ipods for four bucks or Nikes for a dollar).

The trillion dollar question is: is your statement a wishful thinking, or is it based on concrete research?

Calling China collapse has been going on for ages. The joker called Gordon Chang made a career out it but China has not fallen like he predicted, or Gordon has just been smart by catering to the mass stupidity. Don't forget his law firm made tons of money in China.

Merely stating it'll fall is nothing new and you probably will not get too much attention.

    What would constitute the failure?

China needs to get very rich before it gets very old.

Its nice for them to have a "So let it be written, so let it be done" philosophy which makes implementation and a focus on the long-run easier for politicians, but i'd rather have my freedom.

The 5-year plan is like the sun rising in China. It's a routine. Nothing to be really excited about. They have been doing that for the last 60 years, copied from the Soviets.

True, true. Except the Soviets is no where to be seen now. They didn't just copy it, they adopted and changed it from not working to seemingly perfectly working. To be precise, the copy started 60 years ago, and modification took place 30 years later. Since then they have managed to complete and even beat each 5 year plan. Talk about excecution as a company :)

They should really start doing something about it.

Rich kids in the city taken to school in Mercedes Benz but poor kids in the rural area have to walk 5 miles daily to school. They can't let this disparity go on for another 20 years.

Don't we have that problem too?

Well, I guess it's more severe with their large population.

Other countries having similar problem doesn't mean they can turn a blind eye to it. At least we have a well-established social welfare system here to take care of the poor people.

Actually China's stock markets have been underperformed for quite a while before recent upward momentum.

I wonder how long will it take until a majority of the Communist leadership support freedom of speech and are willing to do something about it? For the last 30 years the party has survived by giving greater economic opportunities and for people to get richer, but at what point will basic human rights be considered? Also the service industry in China needs to be taken into serious consideration on how to expand it.

Give freedom of speech? And then face China's very own nuthouse version of the Tea Party activists?

Good lord, the horror!!! I wouldn't even want them in MY country (not China).

One example of the potential stupidity of absolute freedom is speech is more than enough
