So, I was at the Shanghai Expo today. Ridiculous number of people there - 740000+. There were over 1,000,000 yesterday. Some pavilions had wait times of over six hours to get in.
You should've picked a weekday to go. I planned my trip there last month from Monday to Wednesday. The crowd numbers were about 100-200k. At least you learned one thing. China has a lot of people.
We are going back Monday afternoon, so that we can be there when it gets dark to see how the pavilions look. We got to go to the front of the USA pavilion line by showing proof of citizenship.
Weekday after six is the best time to go but even then you will still have to line up at the popular pavilions.
Some of my Chinese co-workers who went said it wasn't worth it because of the crazy lines and wait times. That was earlier this year. The pictures they sent back were pretty cool, though. The only thing that was depressing were the pictures where the scenery would've been beautiful, but there was a cloud of pollution hanging over everything. Take pics and post them somewhere so we can check it out!
Wow I wish I knew that when I was there. Anyway the wait wasn't too bad to get into the US Pavilion, only about 45 minutes. It was kind of disappointing though in terms of design and presentation. What is the weather like in Shanghai right now? I was there in early Sept. and temps were in the 30's Celsius. So not only did we have to put up with long waits but also hot weather. Also if you haven't checked it out yet you should really check out the Spanish Pavilion. In terms of architecture and presentation I thought it was one of the best.
The interactive map of the Expo is pretty good and almost better than being there as you get all the information without waiting in long lines. http://en.expo.cn/index.html#&c=home
The weather is nice - low 70s and blue skies. They have been making announcements about wait times. Hopefully the crowds will be considerably less today.
This week is the last week for normal priced tickets and will be extremely crowded. Went four times, all at night - definitely helped to avoid the crowds!
