Inquiry #1: Has anyone heard how Boki is doing? Inquiry #2: We don't have a shooting guard to back-up Cat. Mith Richmond is still available, who is a proven scorer and defender for a young team. I just don't think Oscar is going to provide what we need from our bench. What do you think?
for some reason i think we will pursue richmond. And i also think if we don't get him that tito will be back up to cat.
Boki is supposedly near 100 percent. I'm wondering about the back-up two as well. Jim Jackson is still out there and would fill the veteran role pretty well. I think the Rockets may feel like Steve is really the back-up two when Moochie comes in since he can play two spots on the floor.
JJ played prettty solidly last year for Miami...I wouldnt mind having him for the right price What about Del Curry? Hes old but he can shoot the lights out of the gym
Considering how they played (lost) when Steve wasn't on the floor (injury) he really has to be the back up 2 when Mooch is in there. Didn't we lose 15 straight without him?
Why are we giving up on Oscar so easily and quickly? If he doesn't do well in camp, then I'll consider joining the dump him crowd. However, until then, let's see how he has improved. (Oh, the his play in the world games is not a true indicator of how he will fit on the Rockets.)
That's what I'm thinking. Curry will not want a lot of minutes; he is a veteran who will provide instant offense and 3-point bombs and will provide adequate rest for Cat. As far as wanting a defender at the 2/3, Terrence Morris is more than adequate as a defensive specialist, and since he has shown to have little to none offensive skills, that would be the perfect role for him.
Anyone remember who backed up Michael Jordan, or Clyde Drexler...etc...etc. Backups are OVERATED...when the regular 2 guard is playing 39+ minutes a game. DD
steve and cat play 40+ MPG. that leaves 16 minutes at the guard spots. moochie takes 12. we are left with 4....garbage time for tito or oz.
EXACTLY! That's why we NEED a back-up at the 2. Steve and Cat DON'T need to play 40+ minutes per game... it wears them down and it will show up later in the season. They have been playing way too many minutes, IMHO. Cat whether he was hurt or not, because Steve was out and that's the kind of player he is. Steve when he shouldn't have been and had a bad shoulder and/or because he had a migraine. These guys need a blow from time to time. I think they're more effective if they get it. Steve can play SG when the situation calls for it, but I don't think he should be seen as the answer to backing up Cat.
Steve and Cat playing for 40+ min. won't be good for the team. They need to be reduced to around 36 to keep them fresh in games and keep their careers long. I don't want to see Mooch play more than 15 min. So we do need someone who can fill in for 10 min. a game. OT is fine with that role. The problem is when injury comes. Backups don't mean much, especially in playoffs. They are essential when your starters are hurt, especially in playoffs. The Kings could still compete with the Lakers even though they lost an all-star starter in Peja because of their deep bench.
I still think Byron Mouton, Jim Jackson, and lastly OT should be signed as a backup. I would still love to see Redd, but thats never gonna happen. I think Mouton has ties to the city and to Steve's alma-mater, not to mention he played 4 years and ended his tenure with the championship. Everyone says we need a defensive 2 and that's exactly what Mouton was/is. Steve needs to concentrate on playing the point and get out of that 2 mentality. Plus the minutes are gonna kill him.
I seem to recall CD confessing that while most press reports listed Nachbar as a 3 who can sometimes play the 2, he's actually a natural 2 who, because of his size and agility, can also handle the 3. In other words, with Boki and Oscar on board, the Rockets brass would be foolish to pursue a "proven" veteran like Jackson or Richmond, both of whom are notoriously bad in the club house.
Excuse me, but do you care to explain how Jackson and Richmond are bad for the clubhouse? Richmond has been in the doghouse for the Lakers and never complained. This guy was a superduper star just a few years ago. He did not want to ruin team chemistry and therefor was a model citizen in the clubhouse. Jackson has been a model citizen the last couple of seasons as well. I seem to remember a quote from him when he got traded from a good team to a bad team just a few years ago. He said something alone the lines "I am happy just to be playing in the league. Most guys dont realize how good we have it." Not the exact quote, but pretty much the jist of it. These two guys are definitely not cancers in a clubhouse.
I do recall hearing that Nachbar can play the shooting guard quite well. With Mobley playing 30 to 35 minutes a game at shooting guard, and Francis sliding over to shooting guard for about 5 minutes; then the Rockets only have to find about 13 to 8 minutes for Boki at the shooting guard. And Boki should have another 5 to 10 minutes at small forward behind Rice and Griffin. So Boki should total about 13 to 23 minutes a game, depending on his play. I think that Mobley, Francis, and Boki can handle the full time load for SG. Torres is a good end of the bench guy if one of those three guys gets hurt.
Jim Jackson was involved in a feud over some girl with teammate Jason Kidd in Dallas. It got to the point where they wouldn't speak to each other and they weren't playing well together on the court.
Oscar Torres should be Cat's backup. Oscar played great in his rookie season, and could turn out to be a solid player.
