Didn't he drop 63 at the garden in a playoff series against one of the great all-time teams without Pippen?

He could have scored a 110 with today's rules and refs.

LMAO...people forget that when MJ came up, a 6'6 SG was a rarity. His biggest nemesis was the 6'3 Joe Dumars. No, MJ, they would have forced you to use your broke ass jumper a lot.

The NBA, the only sport where old timers are better than the new breed.

I agree with those who point out that the rules go both ways. While the more physical hand check and whatnot are out, the zone is in. And don't forget you can double team a guy before he gets the ball. Not to mention th prolific use of flopping on defense.

I'd say it was possible for Jordan to score 100 both then and now if he really tried, but it would still be extremely difficult. The stars have to align just the right way.

and you think the guards today are physical outside of the likes of artest?

and let's not talk about the big men nowadays who protect the paint? wait, there are only a handful.

jordan GOT to the rim, and FINISHED at the rim v. any contact.

The only questionable player on the Bulls team by todays CBA standards is the Rodman for Perdue trade, but then they likely would have had a TE from Horace Grant to the Magic in his All-star year so.....

The rest of their team were either role players or drafted players (so the Bird rule would have applied anyway)

Don't forget that he scored 51 points at age 38.

Jordan without hand checking would have gotten to the rim like crazy. There would be no way to stop him 1 vs 1. He would get into the paint every single play. Unlike Lebron he wouldn't settle.

Artest with hand checking in his prime would be a beast too though.

Jordan often played off the ball in the SF position during mid game and would get double teams without the ball....

    Touché!!!

He has always been full of it. Kobe is arguably better than him, he should score 100.

    That's just silly.

Jordan would never score 100 points in a NBA game today even if they fouled him constantly. Can't believe anyone actually think he could, another dumb case of people defending old timers for the sake of being pretentious.

    80~, maybe. Not 100.

I'll also mention they played zone defense in Jordan's day, there was even one called the Jordan zone, where the zone followed Mike and not the ball, Pat Riley used to complain about dinky zone defenses back in those days :p

Kobe is arguably a better player than Jordan? In what way?
Jordan has better stats, more awards.. etc.

a 6'6 guard/forward was a rarity back then? you might want to check that.

    It's a guard's game now.

When Jordan played, it was a big man's game.

    He'd score 125-150ish.

It's called evolution. While we might not remember younger generations as greater than their predecessor, the truth is every generation actually gets better. Maybe they do not have as big of an impact as those that came before them, but skill wise and physically, they are superior. That's the main reason why it's impossible to compare players from different generations or eras.

PS. Please no stupid comparisons, like saying "in that case Shawn Bradley was better than Russell." The comparison holds true for tiers of players i.e. new superstars > old superstars, new scrubs > old scrubs, etc.

People (who may be too young to have watched basketball back then) seem to believe that 1-2-2 "trapping" defenses weren't zones (lol?) or simply don't know they were common back then.

The only thing they used to call out occasionally was 3-2 zone defenses, which still aren't used much.
