Well he was a good defender and scorer in college and he could probably play point as well as shooting guard. He's bigger than Smith and has more playmaking skills than Taylor. He's worth a look, at least.
And what about Taylor??? Or Paterson??? Do you think they will "sniff the NBA regular season" with the amount of good players we have??? Or Ish??? We have so many players man, it will be nasty for mins this season, it can be good (competition), or bad (good players not playing) It is easy to see teams with a 10 man rotation if they wanted to, we have a 15 man rotation, 15 guys man, and there is no way they will all play. It is not because I wan´t Morey to go after a Good or better SF (Battier is not the same player) that I always thought that before the seasons starts something would happen, because the moment the season starts, and let´s say we have 5 player that can´t sniff the ball, the value of them will go down And it is not like they are all rookies, or unproven talent WE have Yao Scola Hayes Brad Jefries Hill Paterson for 4 spots, ok, let´s say 5 because of Yao Morey collects assets, but he usually uses them when he thinks they are at the top of their value (ex: Landry) And I am sorry to tell y´all, I am with asidd, I think something will happen, what magnitude??? I don´t know, but I think Morey knows that right now the assets we have are as valuable as they will ever be this season because some of them will not play.... This move can be only to add a body, but, it can be because of a trade, so don´t bash people that defend one of those sides. PeAcE
I think Bima nailed it, the Rox can have 3 players that are assigned to the Vipers without being part of the big club, they had 2 already so this is just their way of getting that third player. DD
I just think Jermaine Taylor sucks at making friends with Rox Execs. If Von Wafer can see good consistent minutes, then Taylor just has a sucky personality. On another note... I like Ishhhhhh a lot! That offer sheet to Dampier should be burned so Ish can stay on roster during the year.
It makes sense. The Vipers/Rockets are just filling their 3rd designated spot for training camp invitees assigned to the NBDL. See the thread for more info. http://bbs.clutchfans.net/showthread.php?t=193569&page=1&pp=20
They probably just need at least one guard who can play some D to give defensive pressure in practice.
Which two are you referring to? Mike Harris and Antonio Anderson do NOT count against the 3-player limit. I assume that any player who attends any portion of an NBA team's training camp would be eligible to be on the 3-man list from the NBADL team. I mean, almost everyone on those lists will be waived at some point prior to the start of the NBA regular season. Given this assumption, I suppose the list would be as follows: (1) Jordan Eglseder (2) Patrick Sullivan (3) Jerel McNeal SUBJECT TO Ishmael Smith making the Rockets' regular season roster. If he is the last cut, look for his name to replace one of those other guys'.
I just do not believe Ish is cut bait. I just do not see JT as trade bait. I could see JT cut to keep Ish. I have disdained the acquisition of Damp from the git-go. Except now that the D has been so exposed, again, without a legit 5. So, I could see JT cut to allow Damp a roster slot. Exactly what is Alex Johnson? For that matter, what exactly is JT??? Unless somehow this is related to a trade (doubtful) as I can't see anyone on the block at this time the Rox would go for not named Melo.
Probably for Vipers. Run him with Harris, and Anderson, and whoever else they got on the rockets. Consider it early training camp for the minor leaguers
I am slghtly confused by this comment. We have two legit 5s in Yao and miller. Perhaps I misunderstood what you were trying to say.
I am saying, oh so succinctly (or not, sorry), that with Yao's reduced minutes and both legit 5's propensity for missed time, and the effect of them both being out (lay-up drills for the opposition), then perhaps Dampier makes more sense than I give him cred for. And, what is AJ? The hype was he was a legit roster keeper prospect but yet hasn't sniffed the court. Is he being 'stashed' or is he trash?
There won't be minutes for Taylor being behind Martin and Lee with Bud and Brooks also filling in there. He's not playing now because they don't want him injured if a trade materializes? Then again don't they need to showcase him if they look to trade? I wonder what the Rockets have in mind?
This is probably all about the new rule where teams can assign 3 training camp cuts to their D-League team. The Rockets have 18 guys. 14 of them have guaranteed contracts. Ish Smith was a candidate for the "assignment" but now looks to be that 15th buy on the roster. Their other non-guaranteeds are guys for whom the "assignment" right doesn't apply. They are: Antonio Anderson (was a Viper last year, Vipers still has his D-League rights anyway, so no need to use a quota on him as far as I know), Alexander Johnson (Sioux Falls has his D-League rights, which, I think, trumps the Rockets "assignment right. Besides, he might be too old for the D-League. Might be time to make some cash in China or something), and Mike Harris (Vipers already have his rights. Also might be better served going overseas for some cash). They have two earlier cuts: Sullivan and Egelseder, who may become Vipers. Jerel McNeal makes it 3.
