I didn't care about the lineup changes, as long as Chamberlin stuck around, but losing him is a deal breaker.

I agree with you, Raven. Jimmy Chamberlain was the John Bonham of Smashing Pumpkins, whose replacement is unobtanium. This youngster is nothing of note, save for the fact that he is young/unknown. Also note that I wish people would not mention a Berklee School of Music acceptance as an uncommon feat. Berklee has had an acceptance rate of ~80% in some years.

Great experience for the young drummer, nonetheless

    Young/unknown = a lapdog who's easy to control.

Drummer doesn't matter, they used a drum machine half the time since Chamberlain was off trying to kill his remaining 6 brain cells. There is a reason Corgan is always on his hands and knees trying to get Iha back... I don't care if Corgan is crazy and plays all the instruments on the albums, Iha makes that band. Cool story though, from everything I hear that kid will probably hate Corgan and quit.

I've got several calls in to Sting regarding me playing on the next Police reunion tour, but I still haven't heard back. :(

Seriously, pretty cool story, even if it does come off as Corgan only doing it as a gimmick. But with all due respect to the kid, I not going to go see SP unless Chamberlain is behind the kit.

Reunion tours only appeal to me if it's original members only.

Oh, one more thing. Someone needs to shoot that male reporter in the video. What an annoying ****.

Smashing Pumpkins died when the band was broken up by Corrigan imo.

I don't think they will ever get back to the popularity they had with "Siamese Dream" and the like.

Had he not broken the band up, they would probably be playing arenas instead of smaller bar/club gigs now.

That's kind of funny. I heard some tunes I liked but didn't really know the bands making the tunes. I only knew they sounded like SP in a lot of ways.

The funny thing about Silversun Pickups is I initially discovered them through their song "Lazy Eye". I was thinking I got to get a look at this chick singing this song to see how hot she is. Then, I discovered the voice was actually a guy's where is was singing in whisper voice or something. lol. But, I guess there is a chick playing bass who does backing vocals.

Then, I was turned on to Phoenix with their song "1901"...which also reminds me a little of SP.

I guess I was a way late in discovering these bands. While I don't like all their music, I do like some of these songs and the overall sound they are generating.

I heard about this young looking guy behind the kit when SP rolled through Austin a month or so ago. I had no idea he was really a kid. Awesome story.

What's kind of funny is that he actually looks a little like Chamberlain. Especially behind the kit.

I do not like smashing pumpkins. I just can't get past the vocals- the guy sings with his nose and sounds like he's whining. I can't stand it when "Today" & "Tonight, Tonight" are played on the buzz.

the first smashing pumpkins album (gish) is the best thing they ever did and billy played all the instruments on it except drums (same w/ siamese dream) - after that he started letting darcy and iha play their parts and thats when they started sucking. that is also about the time billy shaved his head and started wearing silver pants and a cape and his 'zero' shirt, so that might have more to do w/ the sucking, but who knows?

when i was 16 me and all my friends were worshiping at the feet of iha and his guitar prowess - then we found out it was actually billy doing all those hendrixian solos and we all felt kind of conned.

nirvana, pearl jam and the pumpkins all kind of broke about the same time (fall 91) and at the time i thought the pumpkins were easily the best of the lot - i really liked the psychedellic rock thing w/ all the wild solos, but they went away from that after gish.

Good for the kid. That is a dream come true no matter the reason. Once he's in that circle of famous rock bands he can probably land a gig with another major group when the time comes.

I was (am?) a humongous SP fan. Gish, Siamese Dream, and Mellon Collie are great albums in my mind. I tried to stick with it through Adore and Machina but by then I had enough. I think it's very cliche to say 'so and so were great in their early years but now they suck' but in this case I can't say otherwise no matter how hard I try.

The original band getting back together could put out some great stuff, for whatever reason that group dynamic worked even though Corgan was doing most of it (minus the drums).

On a somewhat unrelated note, I used to follow Corgan on Twitter, but I find his political leanings a big turn off which doesn't encourage me to try out the current stuff. I'll stick to the first 3 albums and pretend nothing else ever happened...I almost forgot about Pisces Iscariot (b-sides and unreleased songs) and the Aeroplane box set was pretty good too. I long for the days of buying cd's with cool packaging.

Starla is one of my all-time favorite SP songs. Gotta love an 11 minute song that ends with a 5 minute guitar solo.

Remember when guitar players actually played solos?
