This clip explains the story fairly clearly. That first pick at :21 was a really dirty play, and one has to blame the incompetent refs for the ensuing escalation. Nevertheless, it is never good to see such a fight on the basketball court, such a disgrace to the sport.
Sucks that a fight broke out but seeing the coach, who was a white dude, stand up for his player like that made me happy. shows that no matter what race you are, a good coach cares about his players.
Reports here in brazil are saying that the fight initiated the play after the pick where a chinese player pushed "paulinho" to the ground. the joinville coach was extremely critical to the chinese coach as he said the chinese coach was agressive and incouraged his players to fight...
That was a dirty elbow first, and their coach got 2 Ts in a row, I'm guessing the Chinese players decided to pick a fight with those 3 striaght fouls.
Yeah, from the video it was cleary that Chinese player had 3 straight fouls to retaliate that early non-call. People need to calm down, they are professional players afterall..
After seeing the video, the Chinese players were clearly at fault. Yes, it was a moving screen and dirty pick by the Brazilians, but three straight fouls and an all-out melee? That was thuggish. The coach went crazy and his behavior was reflected by his team.
I disagree. Both teams are to blame for the brawl. I don't think the Chinese players are entirely at fault since the Brazilians also contributed to playing dirty. In general, basketball can be an intense sport and emotions can run high. It was an unfortunate event.
From that last play it looks like the little Brazilian guy was trying to get his foot underneath the Chinese big man's as he landed. In that case he deserves to get his bell rung because if you've got people on the court intentionally trying to injure other people (in this case by spraining their ankles) then you just wouldn't be able to have a game. Part of the sportsmanship required to play any sport is that you don't play to injure, because if it gets to that level then it just degenerates into a war of attrition. I guess in football it's more allowable so long as the "hit" delivered is done within the confines of the rules, but that junk has no place in basketball. I don't care what precipitated the event beforehand, it's always wrong to undercut somebody's feet as they're landing. Bruce Bowen.
What a bunch of thugs. No wonder white corporate suit and ties hate basketball. All those thugs in that game. Disgusting.
It's a joke; it's something korean people do for fun as kids... instead of punching each other for fun, they do this kinda **** lol
Why should that matter? If I live in China, have a Chinese wife, love the food, culture and whatnot, does that give me the right to beat up on random Chinese people?
I agree that the Brazilians played dirty. But there is a difference, a huge one, between setting dirty picks and initiating an all-out melee. The former warrants a flagrant foul, and the latter deserves suspensions.
