Saw this on the Chronicle's website just now. I used to listen to Stevens and Pruett religiously in high school. "Uncle Waldo" was a morning staple for me and my friends. We used to sit in the car and not get out until after the punchline. Morning radio has never been the same since they were axed. RIP
The Story FM radio used to be ... life. <object width="640" height="390"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/u7SixgvJGlc&hl=en_US&feature=player_embedded&version=3"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowScriptAccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/u7SixgvJGlc&hl=en_US&feature=player_embedded&version=3" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" allowScriptAccess="always" width="640" height="390"></embed></object>
Used to wake up to Stevens and Pruett every morning in 8-10 grade. Eventually, I grew to hate them, but they still remind me of the final great period of rock radio in Houston before Nirvana begat Bush begat Creed begat Nickelback. Did anyone else first hear over the air that a plane had crashed into the World Trade Center from Eddie "The Boner" Sanchez, or was it just me?
RIP. Sad to hear. While I never was a huge S&P fan, I didn't mind it if I got stuck listening. Do remember Hudson and Harrigan back on KILT, but didn't know he was part of it. I was thinking about 10 years ago how much better they (S&P) were than any of the morning shows that sprung up afterwards, though I later was a listener of Dean & Rog (sp?) and recall a "this will do" attitude when I tired of whatever was on my iPod or it was golf day on sports610. Eddie "The Boner" Sanchez faints.
I was just about to post that! I remember it clearly. Also remember listening to Uncle Waldo, going to two of the S&P Holiday Ball's (whoaaaaaa Nelly, the stuff that I saw there!) and just generally loving the core group in studio. This is sad to read.
101 KLOL was awesome Chuck Shramek was awesome S&P were awesome. I hated that I never got to go to an S&P holiday ball. This sucks.
id rather them just play Music (good music) then listen to pretty much anyone talk and try and be funny. if its sports talk that is one thing. but if its music then throw in a few commercials and play music. do you hear me MTV? probably not
Sad day for Houston radio. Reminds me how much Walton & Johnson SUCKS, especially now that they are just right wing nut jobs who bash Obama non-stop now.
That's a good idea. Sports talk with music. have one person radio DJing and few others running sports talk. axe the whole morning show crap.
thats not really what i was thinking. but that actually makes a lot of sense. if they feel they must talk and not play music fine talk about sports
No ****? I used to LOVE Chuck's "news" casts. All those hilarious sound effects he would drop in. That baby's UGLY! He don't look nothing like my baby!! He would basically just recap all the wacky callers on the Art Bell Show from the night before. I have a buddy who saw him working at the Walmart in Tomball recently, if you can believe that. Said he is the exact same guy he was on the radio.
Descanse en Paz el señor Stevens. UNCLE WALDO was not REAL? I loved it when they would mess with Craig Roberts... Good times... GONE. Was he the one in Sidekicks, or was it Pruett?
reading about this reminds me how much I hate radio up here in East Tx. We have NO..as in ZERO sports radio. No good morning talk radio stations. I'd get serius / XM if I drove longer than 3 min in my truck at a time.
