Kobe and Bynum out for season opener

The Los Angeles Lakers, the two-time defending NBA champs, will start off the season with a difficult task: Winning without the help of Kobe Bryant(notes) and Andrew Bynum(notes).

Kobe Bryant is still trying to get his right knee stronger after having surgery in July, and Andrew Bynum hasn't begun to practice after surgery on his right knee, the Los Angeles Times reports. Bynum could be out till late November or December.

Coach Phil Jackson said that Bynum and Bryant likely won't be ready to go when the season kicks off, adding, "So we have to bring up the game and have a concept on how we want to play the game. That will be done during these next preseason games in the next week and a half."

Well our opening game looks a lot better now.......

Would've been cool to beat a healthy Lakers team after they receive their rings, but I'm not complaining.

A win is a win, when they are tallied up at the end of the year, no one cares who played and who sat.

    All wins are equal.

Getting off to a good start and winning a road game IN LA against the Lakers would be huge.

    All wins are equal.

I'm just saying it would've been a nice test for the team, and it still will be.

I'd rather have a hurt Kobe play then him not play at all though. Now that would gurantee us a win.

Eh, I'll believe Kobe is sitting out when I actually see the game starting and he's on the bench in a suit... Him not playing on their ring ceremony night? Hard to believe. I guess we will see. As for Bynum, no surprise really.

The schedule is already set. They can't take that game away from us.

Disappointing, as it takes a lot of the luster off of opening on the road against the champs.

But nice to drastically increase our chances of winning and coming into our home opener with a 2-0 record.
