Should it be retired next season because that's the building where he made his legacy

    OR

Wait until the new arena opens up, since there's no better way to christen a new arena than by celebrating the greatest player in franchise history

Personally, I'm going with option number one, so the fans can have one last great memory of The Summit/Compaq Center before a new era begins...

Hopefully, he won't make a 30 minute speech like Clyde did. :)

After he says, "I'm sorry I left" to the fans who supported him.

They should do it the night before the Knicks retire Ewings jersey so Dream can steal Ewings thunder one last time.

They should do it 1 second after he officially retires.

Until then don't give that number to CATO or COLLIER

They should do it the final home game of the upcoming season and I don't mind if his speech is longer that Clyde's speech.:D

They should retire it in 1998.

What makes you think he'll give us fans the opportunity to honor him like that?

Well, it's the team he burned bridges with when he left, not the fans. Although it doesn't seem that way on this board most of the time, the fans still love Hakeem and they'll flock to see him get his number retired. I'm sure he'll come back for one night...

I'm with NJ Rocket. Steal Ewing's spotlight once more for old times sake. I can see no reason not to.
