Yeah, I may do that, but you're still one of my favorites on this board. I actually think patterson is a good player and if it were me, with the young team they have, I would make sure he got time. I would only use hayes as a situational defensive sub, not a regular rotation guy.
Both Harris and Johnson are ineligible for D-league assignment should they make the NBA roster. They both have more than 2-years of NBA experience according to NBA roster rules. The only way either could play in the D-League is if they were cut by an NBA team and signed D-League contracts. In that case Harris's D-League rights belong to RGV, Johnson's belong to the Sioux Falls Skyforce (those rights could be traded but would be unlikely as I don't see any way he plays in the D-League next year) Remember NBA assignments only apply to first and second year players. The new rule mentioned above will only apply to players like Smith, Jordan Eglseder and Patrick Sullivan. This is the new "allocation rule" which to be honest isn't a new rule it is just expanded and the old "local allocation" rule being eliminated.
You are right about Harris and Johnson, but I think you're confusing the "two year" rule with the rule about assigning NBA players under contract. That's not what this thread is about. I suppose the Vipers could go for Ish Smith and maybe Eglseder and/or Sullivan if they impress in training camp.
It was my undergraduate thesis. I majored in American Studies and was writing about not only the basketball-related nature of the Continental Basketball Association but also the "small town America" aspect of the towns in which the teams played.
With the Rockets today waiving Jordan Eglseder and Patrick Sullivan (hey, Les didn't want to spring for two extra tickets to China?!), don't be surprised if you see those two playing for the RGV Vipers this year. Since I started this thread, we've learned that the following players would NOT be eligible to be included on the Vipers' 3-man list of Rockets training camp invitees: Mike Harris - D-League rights already held by RGV Vipers Antonio Anderson - D-League rights already held by RGV Vipers Alexander Johnson - D-League rights held by Sioux Falls Skyforce Therefore, since there are only three other players on non-guaranteed contracts invited to training camp (and because Gersson Rosas eluded to it on the FSN broadcast the other night in the Valley), it is safe to assume that the three players on the Vipers' list are Ish Smith, Jordan Eglseder and Patrick Sullivan. (Credit to Al22ex for nailing these three as the guys on the list, although he did confuse the "two year rule", which states that players on NBA contracts with more than two years of NBA experience may not be "sent down" to the D-League.)
Still, we have a logjam at the PF spot. With Hayes, Patterson, and Hill fighting for PT behind Scola, I think one of them will get traded. We still need that backup center behind Yao and Miller, and Hill is more suited for the 4 spot. Before, our PF situation was thin and we had a logjam at the SF spot, now its the other way around. We only have 2 legit SF in Battier and Budinger and it looks like Battier is declining. Just hope it's a Vet taking it easy during the preseason.
I saw this article a couple of days ago on true hoop and my first thought was if only this had been in place last year. I loved watching what Garret Temple was able to do and hated watching him leave. With a minor league system this problem can be somewhat resolved. Players like Ishmael Smith and PP this season stand a chance to see playing time and develop their games.
I have no idea what this has to do with the topic of this thread. Unfortunately, this new system would not have made a difference with Temple. Even if a D-League team designates its 3 players from an NBA training camp, that does not prevent another NBA team from calling up that player. The Spurs could have called up Temple regardless, unless the Rockets signed Temple, gave him a guaranteed contract, had him take one of their 15 roster spots, have him count against the salary cap and luxury tax, and just kept him in the D-League.
being a TRUE ROX fan i think the rockets/ vipers thing should be taken too the10th power as far as you can, hire name bigs like dream, too do camps in the valley make it a place where top guys that might be green will seek out because the best will be teaching there from time to time. one of my least fav stros owners john Mcmullen did something like this when he took over & as much as i hated him it payed off for years &years
