Two things: 1. He's only got one speed. He doesn't have a quick first step, which is crucial to get around people in the post. Likewise, stopping seems like an ordeal for him. When he's moving and there's a guy in front of him, he'll try to get around him, which he can't because he has only one speed, which lets the defense control his direction. 2. He hops. This raises his center of gravity which is why he gets pushed around easily.
Ankle wights would lower his center of gravity, and would make it harder to push him around. His legs would get stronger too.
It's not a knee-jerk response; that's an observation of how he's been for most of summer league and, so far, pre-season.
Jordan Hill in summer league and Jordan Hill in the pre-season look like 2 different people. The person in the pre-season games is doing great! I knew last night against Howard wasn't a fluke. Hill is starting to come around now. If he can get that jump-shot down, it's on!
His mid range certainly has improved, but his ability to catch the ball in transition still sucks. Needs stronger hands.
The way he gets out-positioned still looks the same to me. Coincidentally, his rebounding's still bad; and that's what I was raving about him last season. But, yeah, I think he did OK against Dwight.
I can see why it would be an issue, but i dont see where it's defined how a big man "should move". There's a lot of different movements in the NBA.
Now i see what you are saying. His rebounding was a bit horrid both games. It's like he is content on just watching everyone else going for it. He will definitely have to work on that.
He has poor foot work down in the post and is very slow at recovering when out of position defensively. He could definitely use a few lessons with The Dream. His mid-range game looked very good today though!
