Houston (I'm including Galveston as it is in the Houston area) has a history of tearing down old structures, rather than renovating them. This is no surprise. Next up, Astrodome.
you're not considering the fact that an amusement park built on that spot would probably be pretty sh-tty. Speaking of that, anybody remember Sea-Arama Marine World? I only vaguely do but I can remember the stench and dinginess of it even prior to being jaded. It was like a dilapidated prison for wayward seals, dolphins and sharks.
I'd love for Landry's to build a Farris Wheel and park ala Santa Monica. I'd rather go there then Kemah. That place is not worth the drive.

That was awful. I bet most don't remember that the San Luis hotel is now built on what was WWII gun embankments that latter became a habitat for snakes.
I remember Sea-Arama and the San Luis. When we were little kids, we actually used to play "war" with our plastic guns at those embankments. Ahhhh...the late 70s. Remember "Water Coaster" -- that old cement-channel water slide with the mats?

If Fertitta is gonna have anything to do with an amusement park, I don't think that he would make it crappy and lame. He wants Galveston to gain more and more recognition so if he does build some type of amusement park it will probably be pretty nice. Although y'all are right.. The traffic would be a pain in the arse.
Number's didn't close. There was a story that came out not long ago that said they were trying to sell it, but it turned out to be false I think. It's still open.
