you could park north of whole foods (6th and lamar) and just walk to the pedestrian bridge and then follow the greenbelt right to the entrance, which shouldnt take you more than 20-30 minutes. you could probably get a spot on that road behind book people (henderson st?) or close by. it would be hard to find free parking on friday before 5, but there is ample street parking around there. the shuttles are great for getting down there, but getting back can take forever - you could definitely walk back to your car quicker even if you were parked where im talking about. its really not that far.
just found out i have a wristband... have barely even looked at the schedule. black lips friday night and trombone shorty saturday night is all i originally had planned. hope i can make it into austin in time to catch the strokes friday night though.
I'm getting more and more hyped about the Deadmau5 after party (really a pre-party) than the ACL performance. Playing at sunset and earlier than MIA is a travesty!!! <object width="640" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/gHWXx27VKMI?fs=1&hl=en_US"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/gHWXx27VKMI?fs=1&hl=en_US" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="640" height="385"></embed></object>
I recommend if you have bikes, take 'em. Park up in the neighborhood near Barton Creek Elementary and ride down.
I have a Sat ticket. Bands I am somewhat excited to see would be Lucero, Monsters of Folk, Silversun (why not)... any other bands playing Saturday I might be interested in? Not gonna lie, haven't heard of a lot of them.
Heres the people I know playing Saturday that you didnt mention Two Door Cinema Club- See them if you get a chance, good poppy upbeat fun. Saw them open for Phoenix and they sounded great. One of those bands thats hard to hate, and really really catchy and listenable Gaslight Anthem- They are also pretty great. They got more of a classic punk rock sound. Think kinda like Bruce Springsteen I suppose. I think they are Bruce's favorite band actually. If you like that, check them out Local Natives- They are also really really good. And I've heard good things about them live. I think they are folk rock or something, I dont know. But pretty catchy LCD Soundsystem- If you want a really awesome and fun dance party, go. I'm seeing them Friday for the first time and I can't wait (heard VERY good things about the live show). They put out two of my favorite albums of the past few years. They are a bit harder to get into than some of these other ones though, when I first heard them I didnt really like it. Plus its the final tour, so this may be the only chance you'd get to see them Matt and Kim- Saw them back in August, hell of a time. I couldn't help but smile. Another indie pop band, but also very very catchy and fun to sing along to and all that. You can tell they love what they are doing, they always have the hugest smiles when they play. Awesome fun Deadmau5- Possibly my favorite techno artist around, will be another great dance party. And his stage set-up is awesome. If you like electronic music at all, see him Muse- For sure, whatever you do, see these guys. Even if you don't like the stuff on record, I guarantee you it sounds better live. Everything from the light show to the rocking out to the sing-a-longs is just a lot of fun. I've seen them twice and I still say they put on the best show ive personally seen (I haven't seen a ton, but ive seen some that are considered really good, like U2 and the Flaming Lips), and their live show made them one of my favorite bands. Also, your only other option is MIA, and I've only heard average to terrible things about her live shows lately.
Manchester Orchestra <object width="640" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/h9ZGN_eAEbA?fs=1&hl=en_US"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/h9ZGN_eAEbA?fs=1&hl=en_US" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="640" height="385"></embed></object>
you asked for anywhere north of the river - thats about the closest i can think of unless you can find something around all the condos. like i said, it might be a 30 minute walk so, but if you are truly dedicated to rock than its not that long a walk. maybe around austin high school? there is alot of street parking there and under the mopac bridge.
This. DO. NOT. MISS. MUSE!!! I've attended over 200 concerts, and this past year I saw them at Toyota Center and it was a top 5 concert for me. They seriously blew me away live!
Mine is: 10/7 Local Natives and the Love Language 10/8 the National and Owen Pallett As much as I'd love to go to ACL this year, I'm stoked about these two shows.
Broken Bells. I'm torn between them and Siversun Pickups. Damn C3 for booking them at the same time. <div style="background:#000000;width:440px;height:272px"><embed flashVars="playerVars=showStats=yes|autoPlay=no|videoTitle=Broken Bells - The High Road (Official Music Video)" src="http://www.metacafe.com/fplayer/sy-62946940001/broken_bells_the_high_road_official_music_video.swf" width="440" height="272" wmode="transparent" allowFullScreen="true" allowScriptAccess="always" name="Metacafe_sy-62946940001" pluginspage="http://www.macromedia.com/go/getflashplayer" type="application/x-shockwave-flash"></embed></div><div style="font-size:12px;"><a href="http://www.metacafe.com/watch/sy-62946940001/broken_bells_the_high_road_official_music_video/">Broken Bells - The High Road (Official Music Video)</a>. yeah man, i appreciate it. how would i get across the lake from over there? i was thinking more along the lines of closer to that area, like around el arroyo or something. probably still just going to park south of barton springs and walk from there. drop the two friends off so i don't have to carry ****. and they were originally opposite black keys. i was pumped when i heard they moved until i saw they were opposite silvervun pickups.
pedestrian bridge b/t lamar and the railroad tracks - once you cross it just follow the greenbelt along the river (its not a lake!) and you will come out on barton springs dr. right infront of the main gate. el arroyo would be a considerably longer walk.
