Here you go. http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article.jsp..._id=13549472&vkey=news_mlb&fext=.jsp&c_id=mlb Ed Wade said the Astros had Loux ranked "very high" on their Draft board. "He has a great stuff and is a strike-thrower," Wade said. "Our guys project him at the very least a middle-of-the-rotation starter, and a couple of guys had him as a No. 2 starter at the big league level. He's a big, strong kid with a lot of weapons at his disposal, and we'll see where it goes from here."
alysonfooter Astros will add five to roster: Bogusevic, Downs, Esposito, Villar, Wright Very excited about Bogey and Downs. Wright is what he is and Esposito is catcher depth. Villar is interesting, not sure how they will use him but in the pen is a good bet. I really like Matt Downs, I can see him being a Keppinger/Blum super sub type next season.
Probably a good thing they didn't call Lyles up. Let him go home and get some rest after this week. I'm going to the Express' last game as an Astros affiliate on Monday. The contract will be up by the time I get home that evening. I don't know how likely it will be if I go to any games next season that don't involve whomever the Astros affiliate becomes. Kind of sad for me after averaging probably 15-20 games per season since 2001.
Looks like Stros might need to overspend a bit to get the kid.... @KendallRogersYS: Sources are indicating that more than half of the #MLB teams are interested in Barret Loux. That doesn't surprise me too much. #mlbdraft
@KendallRogersYS: For those asking, it does look like the #Rangers and #Astros have interest in first-rounder Barret Loux. How much? we'll find out. #mlbdraft
thescorer I've taken a few ?s on Barret Loux. Astros have been looking at medical records, but still exploring. Wade said no offer yet. -Z
Rumor is that the Astros are on the verge of a deal with Nashville to be the next AAA affiliate. They are a PCL team that was most recently with the Brewers.
For those not keeping close watch ... Barret Loux To Be Granted Free Agency Chosen sixth overall by the D'Backs, Loux's July physical revealed a labrum tear and elbow issues according to Yahoo's Jeff Passan. The D'Backs backed out of a $2MM agreement, as was their right, and will receive the seventh overall pick as compensation in 2011. Loux is a victim of draft compensation rule Their medical staff’s customary MRI on Loux’s arm turned up two red flags. The first: Loux has a tear in his labrum, a shoulder injury that has ended careers. The second: Loux’s elbow, which had bone chips taken out in 2009, showed signs of eventually needing Tommy John surgery. Talk about high risk.
Can someone post this? http://insider.espn.go.com/sports/f...ports/fantasy/blog?name=grey_jason&id=5553141

"Astros watch Loux again For the second time in a week, Arizona Diamondbacks first-round pick Barret Loux, who was declared a free agent by Major League Baseball, threw for a handful of scouts on Thursday afternoon in College Station, Texas. The Astros, Marlins, Rangers, Cubs, Twins, Giants, Brewers, Phillies and Mariners were on hand to watch the right-hander throw between 50 and 60 pitches for about 25 minutes. They are among the teams interested in signing Loux, who was drafted by Arizona before reportedly failing a physical. "Things went about the same, similar velocity on fastball and breaking pitches," Loux said in an e-mail to MLB.com. "Found myself breaking my hands later than I should so control wasn't quite as good as normal, but overall a decent bullpen." Astros area scout Rusty Pendergrass and Midwest supervisor Ralph Bratton were on hand, according to KRIV-TV in Houston. Loux was drafted No. 6 overall and reportedly failed a physical because of arm problems. Major League Baseball declared Loux a free agent and available to sign with any club beginning Sept. 1, awarding Arizona compensatory draft picks. The Astros had interest in the Houston-area product before he was picked by Arizona. Loux, who went 11-2 with a 2.83 ERA in 16 starts last season as a junior at Texas A&M, last week threw for about 15 times at Texas A&M, where he's finishing up his degree." Link I hope we sign him. We need more arms for the future.
Yes to this losing streak!!!. Because of it we are now behind Mil. and Chi. in the standings. If we lose tomorrow then it will be a done deal and we'll have the 9th or 10th pick in the deep draft next year.
Not prospect related but it is the end of the Geoff Blum era as we know it Astros will not be picking up his option
He had a good run here but no reason to bring him back at that price when at the Astros have like 3 or 4 players who could fill that role at a much cheaper price.
Yep. 1.5 million dollars isn't worth a "clubhouse" guy when we have 400k dollar upgrades on both offense and defense at our disposal. Glad we are parting ways with him. Now we can use Downs as Blum's replacement. He can play all 4 infield positions, which is a luxury to have on the bench. Hopefully they send Wallace to AAA.
