thus spake The Won, at a fundraiser last night, imploring his audience to to "give him a break."

    this is the post-racial presidency?

    btw, what are "workahs?"

It was, once again, a moving and thoughtful speech from President Obama. It's too bad you have to take 30 seconds of a 40 minute speech and distort it with your myopic, race baiting bull****.

    Congratulations idiot

Are you talking about the Civil War because if so it was not fought to free slaves that was just a result of that conflict. I guess that is a whole other discussion though.

Yeah, probably should have never fought that war, huh?

lol. why even point out the way he said "workers"?

    (which I clearly understood)

you hear what you want to hear... it certainly makes you look like you are grasping at straws here in this case.

You know, if you support Palin and W, you probably shouldn't throw those stones in your glass house.

OK, I just read the speech. He spends a lot of his time eloquently discussing his accomplishments and pointing out the failures of Republicans... and this is the best you can come up with in response?

As noted by others, it did indeed take a long time to free the slaves. Slavery was outlawed in Massachusetts in 1803 if memory serves. The Abolitionist Movement spent decades trying to convince enough people to do away with slavery. Lincoln spent years arguing against Douglas on the morality of slavery. The Emancipation Proclamation was not universally applied.

Also, please note that he did not say "give him a break" as you suggest.

    Here's the entire passage...

So, not only does he not say what you quote him as saying, the context is significantly different as well, for he's not talking about himself as you implied, but rather he's attempting to inspire people to vote for the principles and policies of the Democratic Party.

In short... another typical basso thread. Probably a regurgitation of a bad post on some wingnut board, posted here without thought or real commentary, and immediately seen as a ridiculous overreach by anyone with the ability to understand more than simple declarative sentences.

Come on you know you love responding to basso. It also took even more time to click REPLY and then type a response. If it was possible it would be interesting to see how many times you quoted basso. I'm sure you are probably on top of the list.

Haha... someone quotes a speech and takes the context completely away and these people preach it like it's the gospel. Hilarious. Hey, if Fox News does it, it's OK right? Not a single person posting there questioned the context of the quote. Sad.

And they probably call liberals "sheeple," too. Amazing.

    sure he did:

    --
According to the pool report, Obama thanked Phillips for the work he and his wife have done for Team Obama. Then the president mentioned that Phillips and Douglass have an opulent place in Italy and wondered why there had been no invitation to visit. "I'd appreciate a little break and some Tuscan sun," the president said, according to the pool report. "Some pasta. I can use it."
