OU beating TX this year, not as certain now with OU's current signal caller

mduke, you know something, I would not be so convinced that OU is going to beat Texas this year WITH NATE HYBL AT QUARTERBACK.

Had Jason White not come in to bail OU out, Texas' chance of winning the game would have been much greater. OU did not score until he played, and eventually OU won partly because White was able to move OU's stagnant offense.

Ok, so we do not know who will win the game on Oct 12th yet, but we do know one thing. Nate Hybl sucks. He did nothing in Dallas last year. The worst thing to happen to Texas last year was seeing Hybl leave the game. Yeah, he really came up big against Ok State last year didn't he.

Fortunatley Texas does not have to worry about White this time, since he tore up his knee because he can't change direction on the field. (but as a person, it was unfortunate to see him get hurt again. )

Had Jason White not got hurt, I, even being a UT fan, would have conceded that OU would probably win again this year.

(Note: True story= I sat next to an OU fan last year, and there was a situation in last years game where Simms was looking hurt, and this Ou fan said to me that he hoped Simms would not leave, because this OU fan was scared that Major Applewhite was going to carve up OU.)

As for Chris Simms. We know he can't get it done, but I wanted to inform that OU's starting QB is a piece of crap as well.

I'll be in Dallas Oct 12th

I hope Texas can finally win it this year. I really want to see them in the Championship game this season. The thing that scares me is that OU just seems to find a way to win, but we'll see.

First of all, Jason White was not very good, let's get that straight right now. And secondly, this kind of attitude from a UT fan this year is giving OU way more credit than they deserve, as Roy Williams and Co was the reason they won last year not White. Sorry his legend was a fluke option drive. Roy and Calmus, two of their leaders are gone.

Simms is a totally different qb this season. He is poised, confident and not making stupid decisions. It is quite premature for anyone to say he can't get it done. Last year vs OU he had 2 picks that were his fault and mattered in the outcome. For how good OU's defense was, it wasn't a god awful performance. The CU game was just an abberation.

As far as Hybl goes, he is terrible, and in my opinion it will be all Stoops can do to keep this game close as the 3rd time is the charm for us.

And congrats on getting tickets, I did as well. However, you have a way too pessimistic outlook on this game, imho.

It will be the Texas D that wins the game. If I am wrong about this I won't post for 1 hour.

You have obviously not seen Nate this year if you think he is a piece of crap. If the line blocks for him, he is just as good as White.

I saw him against Alabama, and I didn't notice a bit of difference from last year to this year. He may have looked better against UTEP, but I'm a bit skeptical until I see it against a decent opponent.

Um, excuse me. UTEP held Kentucky under 80 the other week. If you can hold the UK basketball team to 77....what's that? That was a football score?

In all seriousness, all bets are off. SImms did look perfect against unc, but that's unc. It's gonna be a war. I'm sure the dirt burglars have alot of confidence, and they should. They've got scoreboard.

Keep in mind that we were supposed to destroy OU two years ago, and last year everyone was saying we'd win because they didn't have Josh Heupel anymore.

That game will be a war - basically, whoever makes fewer mistakes will win.

We solved the O-Line problem this week, but our defense looked terrible for a while there. They moved the ball at will against us the second half. If they had just kept playing their short game instead of throwing deep (two endzone interceptions), that would have been a game in the 4th quarter.

The defense reminded me a lot of the Washington game.

Man, Brett Favre threw six interceptions against St. Louis in the playoffs (three more than Simms)... what a piece of crap he is.

Brett Favre has also won a Super Bowl. Not a very good comparison.

Hopefully the Texas D that shows up will not be the same D that let North Carolina into the end zone more than once this past weekend. Mac Brown is going to have to get this team prepared and focused on the overall task at hand in the next few weeks if he hopes to outcoach and outplay OU in Dallas. I'm pretty sure the UT/OU game will come down to 2 or 3 big plays that will decide the outcome, and hopefully those will fall in our favor this time.

The only reason the Horns struggled with Jason White last year is because they weren't prepared for his ability to run the ball. We had a problem with running QB's against UNC, where Durant ran for like 71 yards. Nate Hybl is slow as balls, and easily gets confused. He's a better passer than White, though, so Vasher and co. have to keep him from throwing the deep ball.

Umm, yeah it is. Brett Favre failed in several big games both before and after he won a Super Bowl. The point of my post was to show that one game (or two in Simms' case) is far too little to "know he can't get it done".

Wow. You are really starting to become my favorite UT fan....great posts Major, thanks for giving respect where it's deserved....I can't wait for this battle.

Cat: Bottom line: IF our O-line keeps your D-line away for most of the game, I'd say we have a very good shot at winning. If not, there's absolutely NO chance of us winning, as Nate will get sacked if he doesn't get blockers....

Even if the Horns don't pressure Nate much, we'll have equal success dropping our linebackers into coverage. Our WLB, Lee Jackson is a converted safety, and OLB Derrick Johnson has the fastest closing speed of anyone on our team. Babers and Vasher will blanket Savage and Fagan all day long.

Also, Griffin looks terrible this year. Unless Stoops grows some balls and puts in KeJuan Jones, yOUr running game is in trouble. Too bad Reynaldo Works has the IQ of a 10 yr. old, or else he'd be your starting tailback.

Pasha Jackson and Lance Mitchell are not going to make up for the loss of Rocky Calmus. You'd better hope Tommie Harris is healthy this year, or Ced's going to bust through your d-line, and put Woolfolk on his ass.

Let's see, what does he have, 330 yards? Of course he will look bad if our O-line does not block anyone.

OU could pick some dude outside 7-11 to play QB and the offense would not miss a beat as long as he didn't turn it over. It's all about execution. Sooners don't need a blue chip # 1 recruit to play QB.

If Simms doesn't have a nervous breakdown, and Greg Davis turns Benson loose, I'd be very scared to be Mike Stoops.

I can't wait until oct. 12th so Simms can finally bury that one and move on to win an even bigger game called the National Championship. On that day, I shall rejoice(with beer in hand).

A gimpy QB with a bad arm was not going to be the difference between OU winning and losing on the 12th.

And Chris Simms has been brilliant this year - that TD pass to Chad Stevens Saturday night was a throw only about Five QBs in the ****ing world could've made.
