right?? now the whole discussion seems like it should have never taken place! (not the OP's fault, by the way!!)

Respect and religion do not go hand in hand. If you have a random assumption, without proof, that Jesus, or any other god has an impact on our lives, I would look to 9/11 or The Crusades, and say that respect of religion should be lacking, If not invisible.

    Skepticism.

I don't think homosexuals are deviant, and If a God believes them to be so, or wants me to respect my slavemaster, I say that that god might as well send me to hell, because I want no part of that so called righteousness.

in all the gazillion discussions we've had about religion, how many minds do you reckon were "enlightened"/changed?

Took that quiz, I got the last one wrong about "The First Great Awakening", which I've never heard of until now.

i've actually gotten some emails from people telling me things along those lines....seriously.

but you're right..i've recieved maybe 3 emails from the gazillion conversations. :)

i would just hope that something i've said might have someone examine Jesus differently than they had before. or would provide an alternative or counter to some crappy experience they had with the Church.

I think it's good to vent and maybe learn something new. Not saying learning happens most of the time but there are worse things to discuss.

this board has helped shape my views on politics and religion a LOT since it's inception...i mean, i was 13 when i first found this place...it's been a huge supplement in my overall development.

these kinds of discussions are NOT ineffectual.

Agreed. These threads are usually far more interesting or thought provoking than your standard republican vs democrat idiot pissing match. Case in point, the "midterms" thread.
