Your professor is going to get his ass fired for telling people that, especially if he penalizes people for not showing up.
Whatever, I don't need to hear flak from everyone if I'm a little confused as to what the normal protocol is when there's an emergency. Hell, if there were people injured, I would be more concerned with the magnitude of the situation, but in all honesty, I don't see this escalating any further. The guy didn't have any intention of hurting anyone or else he would have actually shot at someone other than himself.

You should probably email him back and tell he's f***ing insane, and that higher authorities have closed campus. Don't even get me started on power-tripped college professors. Thinking they have the authority to do as they please.
Is he one of those profs who flips out when someone enters the class 5 minutes late or when someone in the back asks another classmate for a pen? If so, I hope they use that tank on him. I hate profs like those.
Take a hint and stop looking for reasons to go to class or worry. All university related activities are CANCELLED for today by order of the President. Period.
It may escalate as there is a reported second gunman at large. Friend of a friend claimed to see the second one in the 6 pack. Who knows though, with all the different stories? One thing for sure is that the situation is NOT over.
