Clutchfans... Like a lot of you, I work in a "cubicle" job and the Office Space parallels are many. We even sang Happy Birthday in glum fashion to our department head just last week. To make matters worse, my particular department consists mostly of menopausal women who are always graphically discussing their health problems or the inadequate tempature of the building (it's always way too hot or way too cold, although it feels like a perfect 72 degrees to me). Needless to say, the only moments I spend without my headphones on are a nightmare; an experience that must feel like being buried alive with Designing Women reruns as my only company. So besides listening to music, I have become a podcast junkie. I'm curious if there are others out there that share my affliction and wondering what ya'll are listing to. My favorites: -The B.S. Report -The Adam Carolla Show -WTF with Marc Maron -NPR Fresh Air -Comedy Death Ray Radio -Doug Loves Movies -Daves of Thunder What's are your iTunes subscriptions? *Lock or redirect if this has been already addressed.
Two of the very best: This American Life RadioLab Some others I listen to: BS Report Filmspotting Sklarbro Country TWiT NPR: All Songs Considered
If you are into this sort of thing, Hardcore History is probably the most popular history podcast. It's more for people who like watching war movies or the history channel than an academic lecture, he makes it exciting. He keeps them up on his archive for free for over a year, then you have to pay a buck or two to download. I recommend Ghosts of the Ostfront, it's a four part series on the eastern front in WWII, which most people know little about. It makes the western front look like a minor skirmish in comparison. If you like that, his series on the Punic Wars between Rome (Scipio) and Carthage (Hannibal) is epic. Imagine a battle where 90,000 people had to be killed by hand to hand combat.
I drive an hour to work and have to drive 30 minutes to college.....Lots of free time. I listen to WTF with Marc Maron Doug Loves Movies Jay and Silent Bob Get Old(Really good) Comedy Film Nerds Cagcast(Video game) Joystiq Podcast(Video Game) MBMBAM(My Brother, My Brother, And Me) MBMBAM is an advice show and has Justin Mcelroy from the Joystiq podcast along with brothers Griffin and Travis. I've cried laughing at that show so many times.
Democracy Now! This American Life RadioLab All Songs Considered All Songs Considered Live Concerts (or something like that...) Philosophy Bites
My faves: The BS Report JoBlo Movie Podcast (mostly during the summer movie season) PBS's Frontline and Mcglaughlin Group podcasts Audio Version of Real Time with Bill Maher Joe Rogan's Podcast Also ESPN's NFL and NBA podcast series I absolutely do not have time to keep up with all these, though. Usually some get neglected for weeks.
Tiesto's Club Life Dj Riddler's Adrenaline It's all about listening to an hour long megamix while you work out
This American Life is fantastic. Speaking of This American Life, Ira Glass will be in Houston on October 9th. I will be attending.
my list is really long because I work on several podcasts - and I know a lot of podcasters SpyCast - from the International Spy Museum in DC is one that I have no affiliation with that I enjoy listening to regularly
My tastes constantly drift. Lately I've moved away from the TWIT podcasts (Leo Laporte's network of tech podcasts) and constantly listen to almost everything on Smodcast, Kevin Smith's network of comedic banter podcasts. Tell 'em Steve-Dave is easily my favorite right now (I even started a thread on it here to no fanfare). As for music, Drum & Bass Arena, Hospital Records, Metalheadz Records, and Shogun Records to name a few. I also highly recommend Robert Graff's The Sessions podcast. It covers a wide range of genres with a similar vibe, from Stereolab to St. Etienne to Blu Mar Ten. I always hear at least one song each podcast that I never heard of before but absolutely love.
Disciples of Clyde is, hands down, my favorite basketball podcast. Unfortunately they only do it once a week during the season. I also sometimes listen to the B.S. Report and The Dan Patrick Show.
I think WTF is some of the most compelling interviewing I've heard in a long time. It's really excellent. Thanks to all who responded, as I'm always looking to add stuff to listen to.
I must have missed that thread because I love TESD. It's just a bunch of guys BSing around a mic. I also listen to: Adam Carolla Show The Film Vault All the Smodcast Network Shows (Favorites are TESD and Jay and Silent Bob get Old which is a candid look at Jason Mewes' drug history) Nerdist Podcast - Chris Hardwick is so good at doing the long-form interviews that Adam Carolla wishes he could do. Doug Loves Movies Chud Show Moth Podcast - Which are good because they're short shows ~15 minutes
