I believe it was Adelman's ignorant and lack of knowledge about the strength of Yao's foot that contributed to Yao's injury. Simply put, he overplayed Yao and unnecessarily use him more than he needed to. I can't blame him because who would have thunk that Yao's foot is going to be a problem? As a fan, it was great to see Yao in the game most of the time as the Rockets need him to maintain lead or breaking lead. But in my opinion, it is okay to play Yao heavy minutes but not the kind of heavy minutes that Adelman want him to play. It should be a normal heavy minutes like all NBA players do....you know...like your 2minutes breather before the end of 1st quarter...ect.. If Adelman did that 2 years ago...i don't believe Yao's foot will be a big problem.
Putting aside "The Grumpy Guy" and Yao's minutes 2 years ago, I loved this interview. Coach Adelman had a lot to say about Brooks, how he'd been watching him since college, which many of us knew, but I hadn't heard so directly from him before. That AB needed to improve his defense, going around screens and avoiding them, sticking with his man, that his speed could help make up for the lack of size and strength, which Coach A was very frank about (he ain't gettin' any bigger and not much stronger, folks!), but also that you needed to take advantage of what he could do and praised his improvement last season. Raved about Lowry. Said he was the most important guy for them off the bench and would be terrific this year on the second unit playing with Budinger and Lee. That the three of them were going to do some damage. Said Lee was a perfect fit.... something to that effect. Was very high on him and, of course, on Miller. Man, the guy really is a Brad Miller fan. You could tell he's upset that Miller's missing camp. That he had so much he could teach them, and that opportunity is lost. Just a whole bunch of good stuff. Great find, DUHK!
I know, bet Rick's children are afraid that Rick is gonna change his will and leave Brad everything. It's a shame Adelman doesn't do interview more often. He's not funny like Van Gundy but his interview are informative and interesting to listen to.
Yeah, it's unusual for him to give this long an interview. After it was over, I wished he had had more time to cover more ground. So many questions he could have been asked. No, he's no Van Gundy with a mike in front of him, but there has to be some wit there, somewhere. If anyone has a clip of Rick saying something funny, post it here!

What was interesting to me about the interview was that he acknowledged that we won't be able to get back to the level of defense we used to have, but that we just need to be better than last year since the offense is better. Hopefully we can recover a bit more of our defensive mojo.
Guys what's up with the criticisms about my comments? When did I bring race into this? Jeff Van Gundy is a white guy, right? And I said he managed Yao's minutes better than Adelman, right? So why bring the Evil Westerners remark? It doesn't take a Medical degree to understand a 7'6 310lb guy shouldn't be playing 40 minutes a game, or play the entire 12 minutes in the first quarter. Van Gundy knew that, and he protected Yao by managing his minutes. Yao Ming is worth every cent so comments like well a franchise player should play 40 minutes blah blah blah are unjustified. Would you rather have your franchise player um play or not play like last year? Yao Ming is a special and unique player. I think managing his minutes to prevent injuries is a smart and proactive move that will benefit the franchise. Adelman is a laid back guy. Just listen to him speak. He slurs his words and his mannerism is aloof and low energy. He's the total opposite of a workaholic like Van Gundy was. So it's not a stretch to call him Lazy, which I believe he is.
Its not a race thing, its a about a poster whose account name is Yaos name 3 times repated placing all of the blame on other people. Yao's injury problems are because of Yao, no one else.
i still remember i was mad at how RA overplayed Yao. that was definitely short sighted. the result was we lost him for a whole year. let's see if he is gonna break the 24 mins rule this regular season.
Maybe If we would have just got him some damn milk in China he would be just fine... It's the Chinese diet's fault...
