you can't deny scola's has all-around game. OT was an animal, but had some weaknesses - mainly he couldn't hit a jump shot and lacked the post moves scola has. SCOLA
I'm just sick of all the Carmelo chatter, and would prefer to talk about something else. I figured this would make an interesting topic.
This poll makes no sense. Anyone here that watched OT play with the Rockets is going to vote for Otis. It ain't fair to Luis Scola, the Argentine Assassin, to put him up against Man Hands.
OT, Was 20/10 his last year in Sacramento and was basically a doubsle double every year while in Houston and that's playing along side Hakeem...
I was a little indifferent when we got OT from the Kings for Rodney McCray and Jim Petersen, because I thought the Rockets were still trying to reinvent the Twin Towers and failed miserably when they traded for Joe Barely Cares. But my tune changed and became a big OT fan, his baseball passes and swooping one handed fast break dunks were things I remember the most. That said, I like Scola just a touch more because he does have a more complete game. No dunks aside, Scola is every bit as old school as what OT was, lunch pail blue collar guys.
Fact: Otis Thorpe is the only Rocket in the history of the team who is better endowed than La La Vasquez.
i'm not sure that justifies your answer....Scola is more than capable of a 20 and 10 on a bad team and averaging a double double for 3 yrs, like OT as a rocket...the other years he was close to it, but Scola's capable of those numbers as well. Yes, OT was next to dream, but who was next to those two most years? Not very good rebounders, so there was plenty left for OT.
Each guy has his own strengths and weaknesses. The problem I see with this poll is that any forum member who was around when Thorpe played also knows Scola's game. But, there are a lot of forum members who know Scola without necessarily being very familiar with Thorpe. That lack of familiarity with Thorpe by a certain percentage of voters will likely skew the voting numbers a bit in favor of Scola.
This. It depends on the skillset of your center. If you have a defensive beast in the middle, then Luis fits better because he spreads the floor. If you have a finesse center or a non-center who just happen to play center, then Thorpe is the better fit. As for the current Rockets, I'd go with Thorpe simply because we need more defense and Yao protection. But, although this may be blasphemous say, I think Luis would've fit better with Hakeem.
I dread to know how you found that out, specially with the internet being so unreliable for information. First "hand" knowledge?
I love Scola but O.T's one handed rebounds were ridiculous. I haven't even mentioned the touchdown passes he threw with Matt Schaub like accuracy.
Fact: Otis was the only Rocket in the history of the team with hands large enough to fully grasp each of Ms. La La's bouncing boobers. Were he still playing and it was needed to score, I have no doubt that OT could toss Ms. LaLa and her boobers the length of the court for the easy dunk. Or easy dip. Man Hands other less well known nickname was the Big Dipper. Even today, some old time Otis fans will yell, before doing the deed, "This one is for the Big Dipper. Prepare to be served!" Big Hands! (and you know what that means. An even better indicator than feet!)
