Jake's on Chimney Rock is the closest thing to an authentic cheesesteak, IMO Texadelphia is good but it isn't really like the ones in Philly
There is a new place off 18th and Ella that is supposed to be good. Its in the same parking lot as FoodTown and across from HEB. Weve heard that it was a good place for a cheesesteak so we went and they were closed. Ill try again this weekend.
Does that steak place on Scott Street accross from Roberson Stadium still exist. I think it was called "South Philly Steaks." That place used whiz and was really good. Nice owner as well.
I like Texadelphia, but it's not "authentic". But I'm not a true cheese steak aficionado. I just like em good and greasy with some chips and salsa.
The ones at Jake's are good. Never having had a Philly cheese steak from anywhere in Philly, I can't compare, I just know it's good.
CJ's in The Woodlands. It's on Sawdust behind Rookies. Really solid Philly. Hooters has a pretty good Philly too.
I drove by this place the other day and have been meaning to check it out. Maybe I'll give it a shot today.
Willie's Ice House makes a good Philly, again, just like everyone else, it's not 'authentic', but it's a good sammich.
No, it does not still exist. The cheesesteaks were good. Unfortunately the location was horrible. The combo was like $7-8 bucks...not bad, but you have to look at your clientele. During the day...students and staff. At night, well you can't be open at night unless you want to get robbed. I believe they used to only be open for breakfast and lunch.
I was in Philly for the first time this year and I had a cheese steak at Tony Lukes. It was good, but I think you can get one just as good outside Philly.
I'm guessing if there were a blind taste test, 95% of people wouldn't be able to tell the difference.
