On the surface, it doesn't make sense for Melo to want to sign an extension in NJ - other than money and location. Melo would be going to a gutted NJ team which won't have many good draft picks for awhile either.

NY doesn't even have the assets needed, let alone being able to surround Melo and Amare with anything afterward. They also don't have any future draft picks either.

Both situations sound bleak on the court.

Houston is capable of putting Carmelo into a much better situation, and for the long haul as well.

It all depends on what Morey is willing to give up. He's probably knee deep already in another blockbuster none of us ever thought of.

Looks like LaLa wears the pants in the marriage. He'll make them a 6-8 seed, but they're still a bottom feeder having to compete with the likes of Orlando and Miami. He'll be sick of losing there, after a couple seasons.

As long as he doesn't go to the Knicks, its ok with me. He pushes the Nets into the playoffs, and knocks a spot out for the Knicks to compete for.

I'd let her wear my entire wardrobe to get into her pants.

    Nuggets: Favors + AK47 + Nets 2011 pick + GSW protected 2012 pick
    Nets: Melo + Augustin
    Bobcats: Harris
    Jazz: Diaw

The trade the Denver front office wanted all along?

This deal has apparently been going on for 3 weeks now, which is why insiders have been saying if melo wanted to be a Net, he would be by now. I wouldn't completely count us out yet

He'll never win a championship with that team as long as the heat in their conference.

Seriously I did not think that Carmelo would fetch this much this early...

    Chauncey
    JR Smith
    AK 47
    Derrick Favors
    Nene Hilario

Time for JR to step up and be "the guy", perhaps?

If this trade is true then the Bobcats are the biggest winners and the Nuggets are also winners in this trade. I don't see Carmelo agreeing to extend.

    Farmar
    Morrow
    Melo
    Murphy
    Brooks

While a decent starting lineup does not get them into the elite of the East. Maybe a 4 or 5 seed ultimately facing the Heat or Celtics if they made it to the second round. I don't see them matching up against either of them nor the Magic.

So this deal isn't official? Maybe Morey makes on last push?

Brooks? At center? Damn AB. hehe

    Updates via Twitter:

@sportsguy33: I still say no way on Melo to NJ. It just doesn't make sense. Unless Prokhorov is also offering Lala Vasquez a 100 million production deal.

@johnhollinger: Addendum to Bergen Record report that Jarvis Hayes would be in Melo trade: He's an FA and would have to be signed-and-traded.

@johnhollinger: BTW, the first-rounder New Jersey would reportedly include was given to them by Golden State for Marcus Williams. Fine work, gentlemen.

Complete typo haha thanks for the catch. It seems as this is going through. Carmelo is making a huge mistake by doing this in my opinion. The Nuggets give him a better chance at winning than this.

Oh no doubt New York is a great place and that is what Melo wanted all along. This and his wife wanted to be happy. I always thought it was going to end up with him in New York but its quite obvious that this movie is less about winning like he claimed and more about getting to the city he wanted to be in and getting the most possible money for it.

Don't forget CP3 can pull a Carmelo, next September and refuse to sign an extension, and get traded to Nets also.

It would then be Carmelo, CP3, and Lopez. It would still be better than a gutted Nuggets team with no Billups, no Nene, and no JR Smith.

time to unsticky the melo thread, maybe?

Frankly, I never cared so much about him. There are too much similarity between him and T-Mac...

I've got a feeling this won't be the last time a superstar asks out of his current contract.

Deron Williams must be supremely pissed off right now, if it goes down.

You lose your best friend in Brewer, then arguably your best teammate in Boozer, then replace him with injury prone Jefferson, then lose probably your best perimeter defender in AK47.

At least this makes Utah worst. AK47 gave us fits.

This is a dumb trade for the Nets, sorry if you draft a guy....what 2nd? I mean...don't you at least want to see what you have? You could be trading a future 2x MVP or all-time great for all you know.

Plus it's not like Melo is going to instantly make you a contender, they still have other moves to make if this goes down and getting Melo is going to ensure they finish...middle of the pack...maybe sneak into the playoffs.

Seems like it would be much better for the Nets to do sort of bad another year, see what Favors is about, and get another top 10 pick in the process...
