The same reason Muggsy Bogues and George Muresan aren't playing in the NBA.

I don't mean to offend anyone, but the majority of the Chinese people I run into are 6'0 or under. But what is up with these freakishly tall people in China. Is something up? Are they doing something to their kids to make them this tall, in hopes that they will be good in basketball or maybe it's just the fact that it's so many people a few of them are going to turn out like flagpoles.

I think I remember reading that some of the taller people, like Bateer, I think, are of Mongolian descent. That is why they are so much larger than the "usual" Chinese. Or something like that, anyway.

I'm no expert on this.

Oh yeah, also since there are a bunch of people in China, there is a greater chance of people who are unusually tall to be from there.

    They don't play basketball.

In the USA, tall people are almost always basketball players(At least at some point in their lifetime), because that is what is expected. When you hit 6'0 in the 5th grade, people push you towards the obvious...basketball.

In other countries(Especially earlier), this might not have been so. Basketball is relatively new to the world outside of the United States(Although, it was invented in Canada).

Not sure why Muggsy Bogues was mentioned since he was [retty much as good as a 5'3 player could possibly be.

They gain physical advantage in one aspect at the sacrifice of other physical attributes, and overall it's not worth it in terms of playing basketball. Geroge Muresan at body coordination(he can shoot but is clumsy). Muggsy Bouges is less obvious, let's say he's quick due to his being shorter, but give up height for quickness. The taller one is, the less coordinated one gets seems to be the general rule. There's some tall women in the world above 7 feet that can't play basketball, they're not coordinated to do so.
