I have to say, I am absolutely jealous of y'all offensive play caller. Rick Dennison is IMO a better play caller than Sean Payton. He is wow... I don't think I have ever seen so many routes with plan b routes when things get covered or break down. Y'all have something special with this man... good luck against the Cowboys.
He's def better than Kyle. For example, he ran it 2 straight times when the Redskins were threatening on their very first drive of the game. We were able to force a FG thanks to that. Then when we cut it to 10, he ran some more conservative plays. Larry Johnson just plain sucks and helped us on that drive though, but I don't think it's a coincidence that we blew those big leads against the Colts.
Yea, most everyone i've heard speak of the Texans have praised the coaching/playcalling so far. BIG change from last year when almost on a weekly basis they would get killed.
Watching the Saints Monday showed me how mentally tough that team is. They have tons of heart and are calm in adversity. I think the Texans can get there, but we'll need to shore up that secondary first.
Our clock management is still very questionable. There's no way that we would have marched down the field with such little time like they did. Not because we don't have the talent to do so but mainly bc of the coaching.
Disagree on both counts.. I think Kub's poor clock management has put us in that same precarious situation before and Matt calmly marched the team down the field just like they did, I recall the ARI, TEN, IND games as examples.. we just didn't have the same happy ending because of Kris Brown missing FG's and whatnot
BREAKING NEWS: Rick Dennison has been suspended 4 games for violating the leagues performance enhancing drug policy.
If I'm not mistaken, the Saints had less than a minute and drove deep into FG range with ease. We probably had right around the same time against the Skins. We chose to play it conservatively and settle for OT.
Saints aren't too shabby themselves, though I'm getting tired of all the bandwagon fans that we see more and more of these days. If you don't support a team when its at the bottom of the barrel, you don't have a right to call it yours when it's on top of the world. Mad respect and props to the real fans though. Until our Superbowl matchup, of course. All bets are off then.
I catch hell about being a Rockets fan after New Orleans got the Rockets. So, it can backfire sometimes for being loyal to a team. No bandwagons here.
I've been very impressed with the play-calling, especially in the red zone. It's a vast improvement over the last few years. And the running game looks better than ever.
I wish this were true. The Saints were a scoring machine in the playoffs. And this was accomplished versus some of the best defensive teams.
This might deserve it's own thread ... Kyle Shanahan + Alex Gibbs meant the death of the Texans running game. The lack of running game also was a big reason for the Texans red zone troubles. Rick Dennison appears to have the running game turned around.
I think we went to plan B on every Bootleg last Sunday. Leach and Daniels saved the game multiple times.
