I finished the tutorial tonight. The new combat is fun, I like having real range units, and now positioning is important since you can't just stack 20 units on one tile any more. Between Civ V and Starcraft 2, I'm going to be busy.
Yes, I'm happy it is finally here. I Love the Civ games since I started playing Civ 1. I'm curious to see what changed from CIv 4. I heard the Religion is out? That is to bad I liked that in civ 4. It was fun trying to start every religion possible and then become a religion free civilization.
sweet, thanks man. i didn't know the new installment is up. i am a great fan of the series. i'll wait when the price goes down and when i have enough time to play before buying. i hope my computer is good enough to play it though. this, along with heroes, is gonna ruin my productivity heh
Awesome game. . .but it does look like they had one oversight when it comes to having multiple monitors. If only one monitor is used for gaming, the mouse will roll over to the extended desktop instead of being bound by the game screen. D'oh! Other than that it's been great. I guess I'll just disable my second monitor when I play Civ 5, at least until they patch it. Also, I'm a newbie at Civ games in general so I want to ask: How soon do you guys build another city (how many turns into the game)?
I'm looking forward to the mods too. I particularly want to see religion re-introduced. Added a whole new and quirky element that I really enjoyed.
Depends on your civ bonus and your win strategy. It's been a while since I played 4, but I base expansion on the proximity of my neighbors and the strength of my units. Sometimes it's worth it to kill off your neighbor quickly, and during that process, expand between you and your captured city.
I found with Civ4 that it was rarely beneficial to go into attack mode before you had developed a strong base of cities. Even if you defeat your nearest opponent you find yourself well behind the rest of the world technologically which can really bite you as attack warefare becomes exponentially more effective.
I keep hearing that you need a good computer for civ 5. Would mine be able to handle it? It's a 2008 Vista home edition.
It's beneficial for some civs because the land the other capital rests on is as fertile as your own. Also, it's nice for a Ghandi not to have his neighbor bully him and compete for land later on. Once the war ends, I spread out my warrior/horsemen and rebuild infrastructure as quickly as possible. You might consider this as an exploit to their war algorithm, but you can last several turns in peace with that pitiful army (medium difficulty) just by it's sheer number.
I am very excited that they finally are getting rid of the stacks of doom (tons of units all in the same tile slowly marching around killing everything). Also, the new social policies sound interesting.
You can't be any more right. When IV came out I was playing for 8 hours straight sometimes. I am afraid to get this just as much as I was afraid to get Starcraft.
I played for a couple of hours last night and the social stuff and the ranged attack of the cities were the most interesting things. Gonna lose a lotta sleep over this game.
Civ IV and it's expansions were on sale for cheap a while back during the Christmas sale on Steam. I think all of them were going as a pack for $20 or something. It's on sale again.
The last time I played this game consistently was the original, one of my all time favorites. How does it compare, still as good? It may be time to pick it back up. DD
i've played this since the CIV I days, and to me it's always been topnotch. The only real qualms I have with the series is the constant failure to include certain civilizations. steam.
Out of all the vices in my life, Civ is the only one that I can admit I just can't handle. It's literally girlfriend or civ.
