Ok last post before I hit the sheets. If you own a gun and are faced with some sort of showdown, run away. Seriously. Just bail out.

Shooting is a last resort. Even in Texas. If it's in defense of your home/family, I'm sorry you were put in that situation. Hopefully having a weapon helped.

In any case, I need to sleep. Thanks for the responses.

Wish I could weigh in. I purchased my firearm for protection as well as some fun at the range. I just came from the range actually during my lunch break.

I'm a big time novice, so I'll just speak from what little I do know.

So b/c of my purchase reason, I rarely shoot out further than 10-15 feet and even then don't use my sights all the time since I won't be doing that if I ever need to defend myself.

My understanding in regards to your question is that in general, Glocks are very good guns. Reliable and simple in the sense, you can pick it up, load it, pull the trigger and it will fire.

That's always the first thing you hear when someone talks about a Glock. I personally own an HK USP Compact. I went with it because everytime I read something it's reputation for accuracy and reliability was mentioned. Also, the external safety was a must for me.

Glocks are accurate enough, but go with a 1911 for accuracy. No DA...

I would just like to say, if you can't hit a 3 inch group at 50+ yards (yes yards) with a Glock, then you are a terrible shot. I mean awful. Just really, really bad.

Just curious, why get a .40 caliber for target shooting? You are burning money on the ammo even compared to a 9mm, let alone a .22. I can understand if you were primarily concerned with self-defense (although the difference between a 9mm and a .40 is overblown), but for target shooting there is really no reason for the larger caliber that was specifically designed to try for the shooting experience of a 9mm.

Glocks are great guns. If you want better precision from that gun, you may want to get a trigger job on it. I believe glocks have a 5 1/2 pound trigger. Going down to 3 pounds will help a lot.

Here is thread you may want to look at it.

You don't have a flipping clue what you are talking about. You'd need a ransom rest to get 3 inch groups at that distance, and even then you'd only get those kinds of groups with pet loads.

Yeah I certainly would have gone 9mm for range shooting if that was the primary reasoning behind the purchase. I went .40 S&W for self-defense and knew I'd like to go the range a lot so 45 ACP was just too pricey for me.
