I have a Glock 17 - .40 calibre - I've gone to the range few times and have been sorta accurate. About 3 inch group at 10 yards. Seems easy enough, line up the sights and pull the trigger right? Question is, how accurate can I expect to be at longer ranges with more practice? I really don't want to buy another handgun (I've heard that Glock's are super reliable) I just want to know about other user's experiences. Obviously I haven't had the gun for very long, but I have a friend with multiple pistols and he prefers the Glock over a Sig and H&K and Kimber. I know that I bought a weapon that is reliable and fairly accurate - just wondering how accurate they can be. I am kinda bored with 10yd target shooting, and 15yd doesn't really seem much tougher. Is a Glock that good or am I just not testing myself hard enough?
9+ times out of ten, you'd never need to hit anything past 30 feet, anyway. If you're talking strictly about target shooting, someone else will have to respond. Are you interested more in target shooting or self/family protection?
Just target shooting - if someone needs to be shot because they are all "home invading" then I I'm sure I can hit them. A full size person is way easier to hit than a small spot. To be honest I'm sure that hitting a person anywhere with a bullet will make them unhappy. I'm more interested in it as sport sort of thing. Like I said, I have a decent grouping at a close range, just wondering if my weapon is accurate at a further distance. I'm confident in it's reputation for reliablility, but not so much it's accuracy.
They are accurate enough for their intended purpose, but a semiauto pistol is not the most accurate gun by design. The sights sit on the slide which moves independently from the grip where you hold it. The barrel itself moves indepentently from both the grip and the slide (where your sights are), so there is some inherent "play" in the difference between where you line up the sights and where the bullet goes. Granted, a Glock is a nice gun (would not necessarily put it above Kimber, Sig, and H&K---especially Kimber and H&K), but it is a nice gun. Almost always, the weakest link in the chain in terms of accuracy is the person pulling the trigger. That's not meant to be a slight against you, or anyone else for that matter; it's just the way it is. More than likely, that gun will probably always shoot about as well as you can.
My buddy can put together 3 inch groups at 30 yards with a Glock .45 with modified trigger. Its the shooter not the gun.
Spray and pray? I can be pretty damned accurate at 10yds - that's 30ft. I was looking for an opinion on Glock in general I guess. I'm happy with my shooting. Just wanted to know if a Glock is a worthwile weapon for target shooting.
Lol ok I can shoot better that Kboe as well I'm sure. For that I think he has help. Was Just asking opinions on Glock accuracy. Basically wanting to know how far out to expect resonible grouping.
Can't edit because I'm not a contributer but damn *I mispelled a lot of shi* Sorry about that. Still just interested in Glock accuracy. I like the trigger on 1911s but I own what I own. In any case I'd like more opinions if that's ok.
I have a glock 31 - .357 I shoot from 15 years, it's very accurate for me. My other gun is a Walther P22, that one is not accurate at all, but alot more affordable on bullets.
I have a Glock 30 and I am pretty accurate with it. But I really love my Kimber and very accurate with it.
The great thing about Glocks is that they never jam. I had a G19 for about 3 years, kept it reasonably clean, shot it quite a bit, and it never jammed. Not once. I've had 5 other semi-autos (3 rifles and 2 pistols) at one time or another and all the rest of them jammed occasionally. The best other one is my current Walther PPS, which has only jammed once. The Glock never did. If you're more worried about accuracy, get a 1911. They can be incredibly accurate, and are the easiest semi-auto pistol to shoot well.
A 1911 was first on my list when it came to pistols that I've experienced. A Glock was cheaper and considered more reliable so I went that way. I've fired a myriad of pistols over the years, and when it came down to it, it seemed like the Glock was the better buy. Like I said earlier, I'm not a bad shot with it. One of my friends is an even better shot, but he's had experience with his guns for many years. I'm a noob in comparison. Still just looking for opinions on Glock accuracy. Seems like they're in they are in in the middle when it comes to that. Makes me wonder how well I'd shoot with a better (more accurate) gun.
That's a great response. My Glock hasn't jammed once, and I've put at least 1k rounds through it. I have 2 factory mags that I interchange though. I've wanted a 1911 since the first time I shot one, but a Glock was available for a good price (aka way less than a 1911) so I bought it. Like I said earlier, I'm not bad with the Glock considering my experience level. I have a friend that can not only hit the spots but do it fast as all hell. So I know Glocks have some potential, I was just wondering how much I guess. Thanks for the guidance. I really want to know if I can hit a spot at 50ft with my current weapon reliably. I know it will take work with whatever I use, just curious if my Glock can do it.
Bah, I really should go to bed, as I work nights. Thanks for any posts that come later. Is a 3" group good or bad at 30 feet? It seems really close. I almost want to practice at 50 ft. Still fairly close but makes you focus a little more. Anyway thanks for the replies. If anyone has a cheap 1911 for sale email me (joking, I can't afford it)
