The difference is melo can actually take over a game where as martin has to use the system to score, at the end of games a guy like melo can score right over defense's where as martin disappears at the end of games because you can easily adjust to stop him because he's not an off the dribble player.

Bill Simmons just announced on PTI there is no way the Nets get Carmelo and he believes that the Houston Rockets are the front runners.

sadly as much as i like Simmons he has no credibility when it comes to stuff with the Rockets he'll pump the Rockets up big time because he is good pals with Daryl

he basically said if you want the bright lights of NY, you don't go play for the Nets..you go play for the Knicks.

and that the Knicks gave up too much to Houston

who ironically is in good position to trade for Carmelo.

Bill Simmons' take should rarely be considered to be more substantial than a typical poster's opinion here.

Not saying he's wrong, but he's not an expert or insider - just an interested fan of the sport with a gig at ESPN.

Way too much to give up for Melo on a max contract. Hopefully this rumor is false.

One question: Are we gonna use Melo as a 2 after the swap?

Melo is more talented than Martin, but he isn't worth the max. Kevin doesn't defend, and has quite a few injuries, but he won't throw a fit when things go wrong.
Melo is likely to give up on the team, with an unhealthy Yao Ming. He could refuse to sign an extension,or demand a trade.

Courtney Lee would be the 2

    Brooks
    Lee
    Melo
    Scola

i'm blown away by this stuff here...

seriously, this guy was second-team, All NBA this last season. he is among the top 10 players in the game at this point, and he's only 26.

it's amazing what some say on here. really amazing. max money isn't just restricted to the top 3 players like some on here are led to believe.

melo deserves max money for what he does. he can carry a team, and he has shown it. and he's a top 10 player.

Which means he'll be in his prime during the entire length of his next contract.

I tend to think that offering Martin in a trade with the Nuggets serves two purposes. Obviously, it's a pretty good trade chip that could be enticing to Denver. It also serves to trump any deal the Knicks could make. If the Nets offer Favours, picks and cap relief, that's the one to go with, in my opinion.

Adding Jarred Jeffries to the trade proposal for Melo would make salaries match perfect. How funny would it be for us to trade Martin, Jeffries and NYK picks to Denver for Melo. How many Knicks fans would throw themselves from a building knowing that Jeffries and their picks played such a major role in us landing Melo.
