Man, the more i think about it, the bnetter it looks. It would be a genius move if Denver took it. Still don't want or see it happening. Martin is going to have a breakout season! Well....we do have Lee.....

According to a poster on realgm, Chris Broussard was on the air roughly an half hour ago and reported that Melo declined a trade to the New Jersey Nets this past season. I recorded First Take this morning so I will be looking for this.

Martin... I rather get rid of Brooks.. why would you get rid of a prolific scorer that knows the system and can score without ball domination?

Actually, with the exception of that "better defense" comment, I agree with DaDakota's production/dollars = value analysis. For the money difference, I don't believe Carmelo Anthony is worth losing Martin and the NY draft picks. This is very analygous to the Scola for Bosh scenarios. For the couple of extra points and maybe an extra rebound, Bosh would have cost us more than twice what Scola now makes. However, if Morey could find a way to keep Martin and acquire Anthony, I would be very laudatory. I wouldn't even mind giving up the New York picks even though IMO those picks would bring us players as good as or better than Anthony in the long run.

melo is paid the big bucks b/c you can give him the ball down the stretch, iso him and let him do his thing. you cannot do that with kevin martin.

people over-analyze way too much into stats/efficiency... those things matter of course. but martin is NOWHERE near carmelo anthony. it's absurd to even think so.

you really think we can give the ball to kevin martin down the stretch when everything is bogged down and tell him: hey kmart, carry us for the next 3-4 minutes offensively. the answer is no. with melo, you have that option. that's why you acquire those players, and you are willing to give up a lot for them.

melo may not be a top 5 player, but he's fairly close. he is a top 3-5 offensive player and is a guy who can carry teams offensively for long stretches in a season.

if the nuggets want martin and picks, you give them that. that's a small price to pay for melo. now if they want martin + another rotational player + picks, now that's too much.

brooks can create his own shot, but he's primarily a jumpshooter. we can't rely on him all the time. yao is still entering his first year post-surgery. if we are really serious about winning a championship, we need a guy who can create his own shot all over the court and melo fits that billing.

    PG - brooks
    SG - cbud/lee
    SF - melo
    PF - scola
    C - yao

now that is a scary, yet extremely balanced lineup. you have 3pt shooting, you have defense, and you have go-to guys.

and we have a deep bench.

i don't know why people are opposed to this. martin + picks for melo is a no-brainer.

Melo shows up in the fourth quarter. That is incredibly valuable.

I liked Morey's point that basically "max" players are the best deal in the league. Martin is being paid market value, whereas Anthony is UNDER market value.

It's obvious if there was no "max" the top players would be getting paid more.

I expect Morey to keep chasing max players, as they really are the best deal in the league.

Denver is believed to be seeking a combination of draft picks, expiring contracts and young players with low salaries, according to ESPN.
Martin does not fit the criteria :p

You can't go wrong trading either Martin or Brooks for Anthony :) You gotta to give up something for something return. Unless, Nuggets want just expiring.

I hate to say this, or repeat myself, but I'm a little too close to DaDa's way of thinking here for comfort.

I don't at all think Martin is an equivalent value as Anthony, but I do worry that Melo is: overrated a tad, and not a great fit for Adelman and Yao.

    All that said:
    (1) Dude wins a lot, in college and the pros. That says a lot to me.
    (2) I trust the Rockets management a lot more than I trust my armchair idiocy.

i absolutely love martin, but a player like melo does not come around very often. yes, he is a diva but he will continue to mature. he is very explosive and can do more on the court than martin is capable (passing, rebounding, even weak side shot blocking). in terms of pure playmaking and defense when it matters (ala when tmac would actually try to play defense, he would be sick), melo wins out. kevin's tendency to disappear in the fourth quarter is also worth mentioning.

it pains me to take on a player like melo who isn't always about efficiency and potentially could take nights off, but the way he impacts the game cannot be overlooked. i would love to see how the martin/yao lineup would fare but i must say that melo/yao has a much greater chance of winning a championship.

i'm for it but with just a hint of reluctance

I GOTTA remember to check the GARM before I go off polluting the Hangout this late in the offseason...FINALLY, some (sort of) news! I really, really like Kevin Martin this season but come on, we're talking about a very clutch, elite scorer in Melo.
