Melo finished 6th in MVP voting this last year.

Martin wouldn't be in the top 20.

One guy carries a team...the other is a role player.

The more that the price is driven up, the more Denver gets back.

It would seem that keeping the price low would benefit the Rockets if he is dealt to:

    1) Rockets
    2) Any east team except NY.

You drive up the price for any western conf team.

I think role player is a bit harsh Max. Martin is a very good player who is very efficient. He is a great piece to have and is a great "second option" imo. He plays within the offense and is very efficient which makes him extra valuable.

The problem I have is I don't believe we have one true "first option." Yao just can't be relied on to be that guy. We need a player who has the ability to score when the offense isn't working. When the other players on his team aren't playing their roles that night, we need the guy who can just demand the ball and go and do it. Melo is that guy.

    Nuggets hold 12 guaranteed contracts, 1 non-guaranteed.

Brooks, Hill, Taylor, Jeffries + the two non-guaranteeeds = enough salary for Melo's.

If Martin wasn't injury prone, I'd be against this trade from happening. But he is.
It'll be a safe bet trading a injury prone player for a non-injury player when the non-injury player is better offensively and defensively.

if our trade doesnt include martin, it will include battier, but i think battier will be shipped off to a 3rd team (like orlando) looking for defensive talent to round out their roster, atlanta would be another example.

Melo is double and triple teamed as well and still scores, there are no stats that show these important numbers that I know of. You will not see Martin score much off a double or triple team. Melo is strong and can bang with the big boys.

One thing that comforts me is knowing that the media outlets have not known the details of trades until they actually happen, so until we get Melo I am not trusting any news story. I also think this could be one of a few things:

    1. Denver trying to drive up Melo's value.
    2. Houston trying to push New Jersey to make an offer Denver likes, so Houston still has value in those picks.

If you think about it we can just wait it out, reports are that the Bulls are not in contention for Melo, New York has basically nothing to offer, and if New Jersey isn't offering up Favors, why do we need to offer so much when those teams have nothing else to offer?

I still think if we could acquire Iggy without giving up Martin that would be a better deal then Martin for Melo. There were rumors the rockets were interested in Iguodala before, maybe the 76ers want to wait until the Melo situation is over to evaluate the value of those draft picks. Or a 3 way trade with PHI/HOU/DEN? But damn I hate to lose Martin, who I like more as a person than Melo.

At any rate I think as long as Denver doesn't trade him to the Knicks by the deadline our 2010 swap with New York will have value, so I would say the only team we should try and outbid is the Knicks which shouldn't be too hard.

The injury thing is a good point.

I've wanted Martin for a long time as I love the way he fits into an offense and plays off the ball. He gets to the line at a great clip. I mean honestly, he is everything I've wanted in a player on this team.

Doesn't mean DEN likes the deal and doesn't mean Melo really wants to come here. The two most important factors in this situation.

Yes, if KM can keep healthy, he's better than AB. Plus, rockets already had a true pg who can distribute ball. And AB will ask big money next year when Rockets has to break the team anyway.

I really hope we don't lose Martin in the end though. Would be nice to send AB instead.

Isn't Martin one of the most efficient SG in NBA history(when playing)?

I just can't see Denver wanting Martin, just can't. IMO, we'll have to create a 3 way situation where we can get a young stud for either Martin or Brooks (Denver has need for neither), and trade that piece to Denver along with picks, Hill, etc. Offering Martin straight up to Denver will not get us anywhere.
