so lemme get this straight.....Melo is going to sign an extension w a gutted Nets team that has to compete for the conference title against the Bulls, magic and heat for the next several years? so much for wanting to win a ring
If he has a prearranged deal with CP3 to follow him, then it would be like the Miami situation. Miami was looking at a 35 win season with just Wade and Beasley and empty roster. Wade signed with Miami with LeBron following him. CP3 hasn't been shy about teaming up with Carmelo to play against Lebron and Wade.
Rockets have to overcome decent obstacles to win out. a) Nuggets, like any team, would prefer to send him out of the conference. Nets 1, Hou 0 b) Nuggets would ideally take a rookie contract of a potential All Star that they can pay on the cheap for several years. Favors has a much higher ceiling than any 1st or 2nd year man in Houston and Brooks is very close to a raise. Nets 2, Hou 0. c) Nuggets want significant cap relief, and the best forms that comes in are: TE, player w a huge non-guaranteed deal, good player at the end of a huge contract, worthless player at the end of a huge contract. Troy Murphy >> Jeffries and or Shane. Nets 3, Hou 0. d) Nuggets would love worthwhile draft picks. Nets 3, Hou 1. (Unless the Nets offer their 2011 1st...then it's closer to a push) Your mom! OOOOOOOOO
OK, obviously there's a chance I could be wrong. There's also a chance things change dramatically. That said, I'm going to say two things right now for you guys. Bad news (for most of you) -- Melo won't be a Rocket. Good news (for all of you) -- Your Knicks pick's value is not going to be changed by the Nugs trading Melo.
really? u may be wrong? im shocked bad news (for u) - Melo wont be a Nugget good news (for u) - you will have plenty of good picks in the near future I think he will end up somewhere that isnt being discussed ad naseum (i.e. ny or nj). Knicks dont have the picks or cap relief......Nets dont have the type of team Melo would want to sign up with , imo. Unfortunately, if the West conf isnt an option for the Nugs, thats bad news for us as well. probably in our best interest that the Nugs wait til the deadline where they will lose a bit of leverage and they wont be so picky.
New Jersey or Chicago? I really thought the biggest threat to Houston getting Melo was Chicago. I don't know why the Nugs would want Deng's contract unless they throw in Noah (who is a Kenyon/Birdman type player anyway so redundant). The best combination of quality back where they need it and where Carmelo can make money and win is Houston. Kevin Martin, draft picks and a Budinger/Patterson etc. is better than any other deals i've heard and they have a need for a two guard and shooting. NJ could send over a good package but then they're gutted and hoping Chris Paul or someone else comes. Carmelo is young. He could play in Houston three years and then go home if they're good. Besides with Boston/Miami, he's not getting to the second or third round in the playoffs anytime soon. Carmelo with Yao, Scola, Brooks and depth is in my opinion a top two team in the west. We have the team that can beat the Lakers too as we've shown in the past.
a) Ceded. b) IF New Jersey caves in and trades Favors, then yes. But the Nets would have practically no power forward, except Joe Smith....assuming Murphy's expiring is part of the deal, which it would be. c) Expiring. Yes, Murphy's expiring is valuable. Not necessarily more than Shane or JJ, depending on who also gets traded. As for any "TE", does NJ have one that trumps ours? If Morey gets Denver out of the luxury tax...taking into account Denver is cutting costs, paying their new GM $200K, pretty low for an NBA GM. d) Can't see how this might be a push. Morey can offer more. However, at the end of the day, (a) is pretty strong.
I don't buy that point at all. If the Nuggets get an offer with the pieces that they are looking for, then conference shouldn't matter.
Im not getting pissy.....im just sayin that ur really goin out on a limb here Captain Track Record.....u are just reiterating what the media is/has been reporting (or not reporting).
Troy Murphy is an expiring $12M big who is a very effective 15-10 guy that can stretch a defense. Jeffries is an expiring $7M that is at best a 10th man off the bench you'd be paying (luxury tax) to not play. Battier is a good guy that's in his twilight, effective off the bench with $7M expiring. The TE is worth just about $4M. Troy Murphy > Jeffries + TE or Battier + TE To be brutally honest, your track record usually consists of summer or pre-deadline posts along the lines of: There's a guy I'm hearing that we might get...I really hope it's true. Can't say who it is, but if it happens, it'll be big! I'm sure you are getting legit scoops, but put them out there. Pretty sure internet message boards have yet to squash a deal from happening in the real world.
Anyone want to send Nuggets4 some photoshop pics of their new players - Curry, Gallinari and their mystery pick - in Nugget uniforms? You might have a hard time finding Curry though. I heard the Knicks haven't heard from him in 3 months.
Nugs4 has already been legit with all his Denver info he he says that the team is gonna not trade him to NY or Houston I believe him
